2017 gardening thread.

If you have a mind too....Pick those huge tomatoes and place them in a sunny window of your home...They should ripen up.
I have picked apples and wrapped them in phone book paper stored them in well vented box....Had fresh apples to eat all winter...I have a very short growing season where I live.

Wrapping green tomatoes works too.]
We did that 2 or 3 years ago and had homegrown tomatoes with Thanksgiving dinner.

There's also another factor to the poor garden. I was much busier with work this year and didn't have near the time to put into it, especially early on. I picked up some extra work that went well into the spring and then right into a big job that will last until the end of October. Making more money than I have for a long while so I guess it's ok.

I hate to blame it all on the weather. I have some responsibility also.

Sorry, to say but weather did have a lot to do with the way things have grown this summer.
Colorado had crops that laid in the fields to rot because too much rain and machinery could not get in the harvest it.

Don't be to rough with yourself. A man cannot be expected to be in two places at once. Extra work with pay is a good thing....Helps the pocket book function better. Remember there always be an year some where for another garden.

I bought some Serrano plants early in the season. I think I mentioned this before, but two of them aren't Serranos. One of them, I have finally nailed down as a Golden Cayenne. This other one, I have no idea. I put one of my Serranos by them for scale, but that Serrano is the size of an average Jalapeno.

Ideas?

Whatever it is,
It self-identified as a seranno...
And you have no right to species-shame it!
:harumph:
Wait until [REDACTED] hears about this!

Summer here is about over nights are cooling down in 40 and 50 now. Trees leaves have started turning those autumn colors as well as shedding the leaves. Soon be time for critters to hibernate for the winter months. Got a feeling it going to be a long winter this year.

i put ALL the blame on the weather. i didn't work the number of hours you did, and my garden still sucked.

either too much rain, or too little sun on clear days.

maybe next year will be better for most of us.

My tomatoes and peppers did well, but as small as the plants were last year, they produced well then, too. This year, the plants exploded.

Weather turned quickly over the last couple of days, down in the high 40s at night, still not cool enough to kill the plants. We'll be getting our first measurable rain in 80 days Monday early morning. I'm going to let them go as long as they want to.

Pulled the garlic seed pods off today and pulled one of the bulbs. Only five cloves on the head, but they're huge ...and hot! Great flavor!

Okay, well, I figured out what these are. I picked them a bit early. In my defense, I didn't know. I found a bright red one on my plant. And ate some of it with my dinner tonight. Wasn't the best course of action. This one is not quite fully mature, but I'm sure it doesn't need to be.

So I ate some of it with my dinner. It has a sort of habanero-ish flavor and a heat that ...well... it's hot. Really hot. Really, really damn hot. Hot assed freakin' hot.

The first year I grew haberneros I picked one off the plant not knowing exactly what it was.l bit it down to the stem. Let's just say it wasn't a pleasant experience.

Looks like I am going to get some limas. I pulled up three beds yesterday got about a bushel of beans. One bed was almost nothing to be had. Hulled them this afternoon and got a couple big bowls full. Sandy will blanch and freeze them tomorrow. I'm hoping I get 10 quart bags.

I still have three more beds to pull next weekend.
