2017 gardening thread.

Yea. But not a Ford.
They just do. :harumph:

I think Ford was the only one making tractors with a true 4 wheel stance at the time.

Everyone else was making the type with aircraft style nose wheels and they liked to tip over.
much easier to pay someone to cut the grass prune the bushes. repairs ain't my problem nor is maintance and i don't have to have all that crap stored in my garage:D

What did you tomahawk together for sifting?

Just a couple of old ratty sawhorses, some 1/4 mesh and some scrap lumber.

I can run the wheelbarrow under it and sift into the wheelbarrow. Last bit of business with this claptrap concoction is going to be sifting out the feathers and stuff from the seasoned chicken poo a friend gave me. I'll wear a dust mask for that. Then, I'll tear it apart and it'll just be a couple of old, ratty sawhorses again.

On another good note, every one of the garlic seeds Ducky sent me have come up.

I can't tell if mine is growing or if it's just grass.

I know for a fact at least one garlic plant is growing but it's one that I transplanted from the burn pile. It's taller than the "grass" around it.

Maybe I should have planted them in dirt instead of wood chips.

as i am getting older, i am cutting back on my garden. it's not that i don't appreciate having one and maintaining one, since mine is so small. but then again, yes it IS the maintaining of mine. i know this makes no sense. but it's the way i feel. if i were to hire someone, it would be a waste of money. i'd be better off, leaving it all dirt.

it's the hours working, then hardly getting any sleep during the daytime, then pushing myself on the weekends. add other home duties and there just isn't enough time for me. so when i watch tv..??

9 times out of 10, i am fast asleep, missing a good movie. yes, there is "some satisfaction" in doing something myself, over paying someone who only looks at it as a job.

i get the satisfaction that a flower grew that i planted the seed. i get the satisfaction that the veggies grow and are great tasting, raw or cooked, that i planted them and maintained them.

that is satisfaction no one would appreciate if hire to do the job.

i can "see" the day i will most certainly no longer have a garden or this house, but maybe an apartment with (if i am lucky) a balcony for one chair,

and maybe only a small flower pot.

When they're first coming up, they look like dark green chives. Clip an end off a leaf and chew it. You'll be able to tell whether it's garlic or grass.
