2017 gardening thread.

Got my horseradish root today!

Blood pulled up in his big truck, a bag of roots taped to the floor of his trailer, dead center. He's a real stickler for load securement. :D Hands me the bag of roots and a bill for delivery. Charged me 5$ a mile!

I said wtf?!

He said I'm paying the deadhead home cause freight outta Baltimore ain't paying sh!t! :biglaugh:

Anyway, thanks again Dave. I really appreciate it. The towel was still moist in the bag. I planted them in one of my smaller beds, maybe 3x6, and spaced them about 8" apart. I cant wait to make some tiger sauce!

FREE HORSERADISH ROOT!!
Just pay S&H.
:)

I spent part of the week, week before last in Baltimore after my first run (to Morgantown, Pa) on a new gig.
I thought about calling you but didn't know how dispatch worked or when I might get a chance to run.
I ended up loading from the port with 5 drops, 3 in Philly.
:stare1:
Then loaded again for a 3 drop to get home for my grandson's graduation...
and ended up staying for a friends funeral.
:(

I was thinking this might be a good gig for you since the company has a lot of local(ish) loads.
I don't recall whether you still have your flatbed or not but they pull lowboys anyway.
the 5 drop paid about $1100 to the truck for a couple of hundred miles plus about a hundred miles D/H back to Baltimore...
but DAMN! It's a lot of w.o.r.k.!
:scared:

Probably a lot tougher for me than it would be for you since you've hauled open-deck before and worked construction since you parked the truck.
I've been pretty much sitting on my ass for the last several years and it's like the short dog said when he stepped off the curb...
ruff.
;)

They seem to have a lot of freight from there though.
I was thinking you could work close to home 8 or 9 hours a day and make 3 - 4 K per week with minimal fuel costs. The best part is that they'll take your '85 with just a current inspection. After they scheduled me for orientation they sent me a list of stuff to bring to prove employment as a contractor for 4 or 5 years, then never mentioned it during training.
:confused-96:
Not that I'm recommending them because I dunno enough yet to do so...
I'll keep you posted...
Meanwhile, this is TFN. Not Donna's tree house.
So please stay on topic in the future and stop sullying my gardening thread with off topic drivel!
Please n thanks...

She retired March 1rst...
Which coincided with the scheduled shut-down.
A few of us petitioned for a reprieve...
and got it...
time being.

we all know the importance of some beneficial insects in our gardens, like the bee's as only one example.

i have about 15 Arborvitae tree's cut down to form an L shape surrounding ny garden. however, a non-beneficial bug can destroy them come spring time, called "the bagworm"

Bagworm Control: How To Get Rid Of Bagworms

now, of course i can use powerful insect spray, but since i do grow a vegetable garden, i'd rather attract a beneficial insect to control and maybe even eliminate the bagworm, it is called an Ichneumonidae wasp.

these little buggers feed off the larvae of the bagworms as they in turn, feed off my Arborvitae bushes.

to attract these very tiny wasps, we grow daisies.

i was just outside a few minutes ago, enjoying a cigar, and i could see several of those wasps, seeking a meal of bagworm larvae.

we all know lady bugs eat the aphids on some of our flowers as well, like the roses i have.

yes, many of us know the importance of the beneficial insects, which is yet another reason why i like to stay away from insecticides as much as possible..??

and you..????

insecticides or beneficial insects.???

No insecticides here...
other than diatomaceous earth...
but I use it sparingly because I'm not sure that it is harmless to bees.

Oh yeah...
I nearly forgot to rub it in.
Looky here...
bitches!

At this point yeah I'm looking hard at my options. I'll email ya later, I don't wanna be one of those pricks that sends a thread off topic. :D

Well, that isn't why people call you a prick.
:D

Did the illegal El Salvadoran immigrants find another front man?
:stare1:

My wife saw a couple of the grandkids yesterday and took a jar of fresh strawberries to Julian because he likes them so well.
Julian is autistic and usually touches his food multiple times before eating it.
She said he was slamming the strawberries right from the jar like he was knocking back shots or something.
:D
Man, they are GOOD!
I just had a bowl with a small amount of sugar and every bite is surprising!
:)

These pretzels are making me thirsty:D

You should probably wash them down with a beer. :)

Yeah sure, I'll take one since you offered.

Need to stay on topic: I almost bought a peanut plant for this year but I wasn't sure if it would produce in zone 7.

Dammit I had to edit mine too RJ! Make up your mind! Peanuts or pretzels!

:D
