2017 gardening thread.

Makes me wish i had a garden but it is fun to read about it on here. I love this kind of stuff.
Life in the big city:redface:
you could always have a "container garden" one year, i had (i think) 5, 5 gallon drums, filled with garden soil. i planted 5 tomato plants. each one grew fantastically.

now of course, this depends on where you live, and if you have a balcony, or a front or rear porch, that no one would mess with.

heck, you can even grow things on your roof top, if it is flat, and the owner of the building gives you the ok.

you can even plant an herb garden in your apartment, just make sure yo move it to a window that gets at least 5 to 7 hours of sun daily.
Well yeah that's an easy option. Sarah's dad gave me that antique stone age trencher but the main thing is the distance from the well pump. I wouldn't get much flow volume.
oh, if you had mentioned a well, (which you didn't) then i didn't read that.

Thanks blood I'll email you my address.

I started growing carrots when I put my raised beds in. My soil mixture was a third each of compost, peat moss and vermiculite. The vermiculite keeps the soil from packing. When I go out in the spring to plant I can make a hole for the plant with my hand. No tilling at all.

Blood I did use the woodchips on the beds instead of in between and I'm glad I did. I think they do help retain some moisture. I'm going to get some more for around my trees and the front flower beds. Good tip.

I suppose i could go all hydroponics, But I would need a better return than a few tomatoes. I would have to plant a crack cocaine tree or a Meth tree:biglaugh:

I tried to post this stuff earlier and send my address but for some reason I was expected to be productive today. I just don't understand wtf is wrong with people. :D

Not so much a gardening thing (unless you have apple trees) but yesterday my wife made home made applesauce. This was the second time she's made it and holy cow is it delicious! I rarely eat store bought applesauce. I'd rather use that real estate on my plate for extra protein but home made applesauce gets a designated spot on my plate.

When apples come into season I might try to can some applesauce. Anybody ever try that?

Making apple sauce is easy. Just don't raise the blades up when mowing under the apple trees. :D

It turns out a little better if you throw some cinnamon on the ground first.

True dat! but the point was the buyout and re-branding may have people forgetting Monsanto or will they boycott Bayer too?
I dunno.

Back in the 1980's my grandpa boycotted K-mart because they owned Waldenbooks and Waldenbooks sold pornography. o_O

Got my horseradish root today!

Blood pulled up in his big truck, a bag of roots taped to the floor of his trailer, dead center. He's a real stickler for load securement. :D Hands me the bag of roots and a bill for delivery. Charged me 5$ a mile!

I said wtf?!

He said I'm paying the deadhead home cause freight outta Baltimore ain't paying sh!t! :biglaugh:

Anyway, thanks again Dave. I really appreciate it. The towel was still moist in the bag. I planted them in one of my smaller beds, maybe 3x6, and spaced them about 8" apart. I cant wait to make some tiger sauce!

What kind of tape did he use? I usually prefer duct tape for load securement but I hear gorilla tape also works well. ;)
