Hello Everyone
I purchased a 1991 379 in 2000 with the vision of one day giving it a proper rebuild when the time comes. I built the truck back then and operated it for 15 years until the frame got to the point where it would not safety. Now I guess is the time. Currently has a 3406B that I would like to remove and put in a 3406e or 6nz. Can anyone give me some insight into what might be involved with changing to an E and if there are wiring harnesses available to make this change over go a little more smoothly?

I don’t believe theres an easy wiring harnesses available for that. Going from a mechanical to an electronic engine, you will even have to change gauges to data link gauges or find extrao block bungs for all your mechanical/electric gauges that are wired directly to sensors for gauges now. Pin in powers and grounds to the ecm, May have to relocate engine mounts. Pin cruise switches into ecm. Probably lots of other little thinks that aren’t coming to mind at the moment.

I know this may be a little off topic and not an answer to your question but we have a 1998 Peterbilt 379 on our farm with the E model in it. We have 3 other older Peterbilt 379's with the B model in them and prefer them over the E...only because we like the mechanical engine better than the computerized engine. Couldn't help but ask if you would want to swap out engines? 🙂

I have an 89 379 with a B model if you're interested. It's listed in the classified section.

Mawk Industries can build the wiring harness you need. Link posted below...
