Schneider O/O

And stories like this are why I ain't at Landstarve...
They and Mercer were always a plan B for me. I know folks at both who do very well - they've been there for some time. Others have soured on both carriers.

:dunno:

Buddy at Mercer told me the open deck freight is very strictly controlled by the carrier. Van side is more open, and they'll allow you to book your own loads through one of their brokers.

They're using the JJ Kellar ELD, which buddy told me was a royal goat **** compared to say, Omnitracs.

I wasn't impressed with how Mercer treated Julian's family after he passed from a stroke thousands of miles from home, but that was a different adventure. Duck remembers.

We were leased to Landstar many moons ago circa 1998. We did consider having our own trailer but, being the low man on the Totem pole it would mean losing out on drop and hooks.
Unless you are well established and running a dedicated it makes sense to use their trailer.
I would say that would be the same at any company like Schneider, Etc.

If you don’t mind flatbed work, CRST Malone is pretty good. You can work off the load board, find a broker you like and work with them, use outside brokers.... 75% linehaul, 100% on FSC, tarp pay, extra stop pay, detention, etc. You get carrier rate on insurance (MUCH cheaper than first year MC), they cover cargo for you, great fuel discounts (anywhere from 20 cents to 62 cents) they file your IFTA at cost and provide a statement for you.... beats the hell out of 65%!

Depends on the revenue.

Market rate... this week I’ll gross right at 4K after they take their cut, on about 2200 miles. I’ve ran as low as $1.40 and as high as $4.02, but generally average between $1.80-$2.00.

Ran one of their loads this week. Direct delivery from some place in Iowa over to Nebraska City. $975 for 160 miles. Heavy load of wire from Iowa Steel. Don’t see too many of their loads on the board, but given how they never even blinked at my rate, I won’t hesitate to try to get another one of their loads.

You can do all of the above.... bring your own truck and trailer, bring your own truck and rent a trailer, lease purchase a truck and rent a trailer, lease purchase a truck and trailer, lease purchase a truck and bring your own trailer......

FYI

I just signed up as a carrier with Schneider today, as they require you to have 6 months experience as a carrier before you can sign up with them.

It appears that they have set up something new for carriers, which is similar to what they have for their owner ops, our very own loadboard, complete with the rates already there. Kind of a click and it’s yours type thing, just like Uber and Convoy.

The Malone loadboard works the same way. The loads are posted with the rate, and you can click to reserve the load. The listing broker will contact you after and confirm.

6 years and I still haven't hauled a load for Schneider.

I got all signed up with them last night. Signed up as a carrier with SWIFT as well. I had already signed up with JB Hunt weeks ago, so that automatically approved as soon as I got my 180 day mark.

JB Hunt has an interesting board. You can “book now” for the price they have listed, or you can submit an offer. The board shows the current lowest offer, so you can go in a under bid the competition in true mega fleet fashion.

What if you bid higher? 😒

Like Shipping Wars or whatever that TV show was.

Yeah. Bid lower. Genius

Wtf was that "load board"....

Uship?

That was retarded

Was? It’s still around and growing.

As for bidding, what’s wrong with the JB Hunt system? You are doing the same thing with other brokers, only difference is they are being transparent and not wasting your time.
