Here you and I been talking most of this afternoon about those trucks....Things that are well worth keeping and restoring. Those trucks of yesterday....Trucks that spring back to life from those that take the time to care.
There for me is sometimes things in this life that are priceless.....Our conversation today is one of them...
Thank you so much!!!!!

You welcome... enjoyed it too. I always found fellow Street Rodders to be good folks. It takes a certain mindset to take something old and turn it into something new while maintaining respect for the work of the craftsmen that came before us.

I dabble in writing and art. Not good enough to make money at it. But it is creating stuff and making money is not the only thing in the world.

Our Irish colleague earlier mentioned creating with wood. He knows the feeling we're talking about. I respect the heck out of builders of anything that take their craft seriously and strive to be good at it. The old term for craftsmen and builders was ARTizan. They are as much Artist as any painter who put brush to canvas.

That's the big problem I have with today's new breed who have been taught to sneer at the man or woman with the "dirty hands". We build, they take and destroy.

There is not one thing wrong with a man/woman getting dirt on those hands and being productive human beings.
After all it is all washable....Now there different kinds of education...Schools 1-12, college, street smarts, the house of hard knocks and then there is the old timers education those are the ones who are the real professionals. They can build with the hands and the mind, they can engineer what some college students never learned, they can carved what the house of hard knocks never learned to do.They smart enough to know when a agency is handing then a bill of goods that is worthless this is something street smart does not teach. Most are preprogrammed before they ever leave high school and lose the ability to be individuals, the mind becomes somewhat like our computers doing things upon command. This is a throw away world we all live in there everything from throw away cars to plastic bottles. Then there are what is known as the outlaws or some will say the out cast...these are the one that refuse to be programmed and choose to be different and do there own thinking for themselves. Money is the chief driver of the human race today world wide. Now, keep in mind you are only reading my opinion as I see things threw my eyes.

I draw and paint also....With charcoal, oils, pastels....for extreme pleasure....Also own three copy writes. This however does not make me special but it does make me a individual.

Speaking to the original post. People wanted things cheaper. Unions wanted more money for non skilled labor and the gap closed between profit and quality.
Soon enough workers where paying good money to unions to price themselves out of the production market.
No Politician has ever sent a job overseas, EVER!
Consumers and workers did that all on there own.
Now we reap what we have sown.
Crap products and a shit economy. Moderation would have served us well. Everything in moderation, Including moderation!
Those jobs are not coming back, Lessin' you are willing to live a third world lifestyle on third world wages.

Just to endorse (((ME))) this has been one of the few Threads I'm really enjoying and getting my Teeth into...Harold Wilson {Ex British Prime Minister} once said "Only for the Emigrants who settled in England we would not have the Underground Rail System or Sewers that we have today"...these People were not afraid to get their Hands dirty while the British Public looked down their Nose at them yet these very same People now take the Underground and Sewers for granted as if they were always there...The Chinese, Irish, and many others laid your 1st Railway Tracks...the list is endless and this Thread could go on for Eternity...the bottom line is todays World is all about Profit and nothing else...pure utter Greed and the time is fast approaching when something has to give...

At the World's end I can see parts of Heaven closing down and Extensions being built onto Hell to cater for the influx of these Greedy People...in the meantime the Rich get Richer and the Poor...well they can go to :stirpot:{ skip the Saint}...

Where do you think all those emigrants learned about how to install underground railroads and sewer systems...They learned it from the professional...The old ones who had the know how and was not afraid to get hands dirty and bend those backs for betterment and positive progress for next generation. People like your father, grandfather or even great grandfather....They are the real back bones of the world.
" the time is fast approaching when something has to give..."
Yes I agree...I could write a best sale book on what I think! lol Sorry that stuck me as funny.
Programs will fail, money has no value, product materials are weak, ect.
What it is going to take as I see it and I only touch upon one area because there is a whole host of them that been created to alert man kind thinking.
The automobile has been alerted, reconditioned and had all the bells and whistles added to it that in time just will not work....Known as throw away auto's.
This will lead to industry trying to find blue prints or drawings of parts...which most probably would be scrapped or destroyed for what they thought was a better program....
Then it gonna fall down to the common Joe who stored that auto in a barn or the man who took the time to rebuild a old junked throw away....
Sorry, I happen to be of the opinion history repeats itself for man kind...All you got to do is dance thru the history books to read it like a blue print..

I wrote this wrong! I should have wrote it like this..(Geramojess) Said, " I'm really enjoying and getting my Teeth into"

I am correcting myself....for clear communication.

Environmental regulations, Obamacare, taxes upon taxes upon taxes, ... come on now. The politicians had a part in it too.

Environmental regulations...In the future there is coming a big change on that horizon.

Obamacare....Is a creation to support the Pharmaceutical Industry.

taxes upon taxes upon taxes....The pyramid system.

Now for some fun shits and giggles...To make the youth of today think the older ones are fruit cakes.

If you started a fire in a ole wood stove...And ask the kid to turn down the damper...that kid would ask what is a damper and think you were talking a foreign language....It is easier to turn that thingy up over there on the wall for heat...without considering the cost. Mission impossible.
By the way do any of you remember those old wood cook stoves???

If you handed a young woman a iron and a ironing board....even plugged in the iron for her...handed her the piece that needed ironing....She would have no idea what this equipment is for to start with....and would not even understand what the setting for proper amount of heat were for either as she would have no idea what the materials of the garment are even made from. Mission impossible.
By the way do any of you remember those gas irons or the sad-Irons???

I not even going to touch upon the feather bed mattress or pillows....That is all foreign language to the kids of today!
Without a doubt mission impossible.

When I was a youngster, I'd cook french fries in a cast iron frying pan on my grandmother's pot-belly stove.

Glad you came in to talk here.... I bet you had some grand times with the grandmother. Priceless treasures as I call them. Most of my cook wear is cast iron and as for that old cook stove...yea got one of those too came out of the year of 1810 a Christmas gift from a friend of fifteen years. Best dang Christmas gift I ever got. Might add got the modern stove too.

After Dad died, Mom used to ship me off to Gran's place for the summer just to be rid of me for awhile. Working farm, the old homestead.

Anyways, they still had the old wood stoves and I "inherited" the job of keeping the stovewood and the kindling boxes full. Quickly learned the value of a sharp axe and how to put an edge on it (hand crank grindstone).

Took awhile longer to learn which wood was stovewood (maple, birch, beech and other hardwoods) and which was kindling (fir, spruce and cedar, etc).

Believe it or not, I was quite proud the first time I was allowed to actually split firewood (by hand with an axe). There is actually a right and a wrong way to do this. I still wince when I see someone doing this in TV and movie westerns. They invariably do it the wrong way. :D
