Why would anyone do a lease purchase good or bad credit?

I lucked into ATS. I wanted specialized training, I really want a company job, there weren't any at the time. I went with a lease. I made it work. If I can make it work, anyone can. I talked to plenty of drivers at ATS that were failing. Many, because of the reasons I listed above. You are right, you can talk until you are blue in the face to some drivers and they are still going to fail.

My question to you is, why would I go to a company where I didn't think I could make it work? ATS is hiring, why not go there?

Because some people get caught up limiting themselves. I'm not going to do flatbed because it is too much work! Well screw that! You go where the money is. When you build up your reputation, your bank account, your equipment and experience then you can be picky. Until then, you work your butt off.

I don't think I am a rare exception of a successful lease, there are many out there. The reason you don't hear about them is because they are out working and not on the internet blaming everyone else for their failure!

When I first started driving truck in 1997, my trainer said that if I didn't want to work, I was in the wrong business. The reason Dry Van doesn't pay anything is because all the fat, lazy fuchs are driving van.

Any moron with the intelligence level of a retarded monkey can drag a dry van behind them.

If you want to make money, you drive reefer. If you REALLY want to make money, you learn to throw a tarp. :)

If you are a people person, then you bedbug.

All the money is in areas where it is very specialized and oddly enough require you to work and possibly get sweaty and dirty.

Do you generalize because it's faster? I do.I pull a dry van, I am neither fat nor lazy.I pull a dry van because I choose to.I make damn good money because of my experiance and I don't sit in truck stops telling stories all day.I max out my day eat, shower and go to bed,And repeat.Equals great hometime and a good paycheck.

I know it was your trainer that made the retarded monkey pulling dry van comment.I hope you didn't put too much stake into that. You should respect every driver out there they hold the same class as you.You being new should respect every driver out there,Even the retarded monkey dry van haulers have been out there longer than you.You could learn something from them.Sounds like a college boy that got into this because it looks easy,Just like all the suits that jumped into this in the 90's and realized,It looks easy because real truckers make it look that way. Most of them washed out.

I disagree, a company drivers makes no business decisions on his own. He goes where he is told, he takes the load he is told, he calls the company when something goes wrong, he makes little to no decisions that effect his bottom line other than getting out of bed for that day. I'm not knocking drivers, I was one once. They just don't have an invested interest.

for the most part you are right but I do disagree with this...
.They just don't have an invested interest
think about this angle terry. Every employee has an invested interest if they think about it. If an employee does not do his BEST at his job, he may not have a job. The employee needs to realize his employer is in business to make a profit not break even and by that an employee does have an invested interest...his time and effort are his investment his reward a paycheck. If the truck doesn't make money the driver doesn't either.

Never had a "trainer".

Personally I've pulled Grain, Bullrack, flatbed, doubles, tanker, reefer, and dry van.

Dry van rates are low for the reason. They require no work and everyone and their brother, sister, mother, and cousin can do dry van. It requires little work and the industry is saturated with them.

It doesn't take much intelligence to drag a dry van behind you.

The money isn't in dry van for a reason. Because it's easy and everyone is doing it. The pay in reefer is a little higher because of the insurance, fuel, risk, etc.

Bullrack was, by far, the hardest, dirtiest, and best paying job I ever did. Respect is earned not given. I don't know you, don't care to know you. I have my opinions and they are based on experience. The hardest working and highest paid guys in the business are the ones getting dirty, sweaty, and pushing their logs books to the edge.

You go ahead and pull your little dry van for $1.25 a mile. I've been there and done that. There is no pay in it. I'd rather do a little work so I can afford a little bit better life.

I respect anyone who is out there trying to earn a living. If they are pulling a dry van or they clean toilets.I do not respect people who think they are better than others and put them down for trying to earn a living.Good day to you Sir.

I don't care what anyone's opinion is of me. You shouldn't either. It don't pay your bills, employ you, nor am I responsible for your life.

You shouldn't give a rat's tail what I think.

My opinion is my opinion. This is the internet and I tend to be labeled a troll sometimes because I always give my opinion whether someone asks or not.

Thick skin is the secret to survival in the trucking world.

Sure, that happens, but why did it happen? How many breakdowns did he have because he didn't do proper maintenance? How many refused loads? How many days did he sit at home? How many advances did he take? How many missed appointments? The list goes on and on. Don't think that I think all leases are good leases, but don't you think that all drivers are good drivers and that they are all businessmen either.

just did orientation with may trucking
there was a guy there that leased at cr england\
he was in the hole for 3 weeks ,his last week he made $1.27
no fun

This is NOT hard to believe.

I think fleece deals should be illegal. They started long, long ago in a country near you.

But modern day corporations like Prime and CR England have learned how to screw you legally.

I have never leased a truck, so I can't speak from experience. But common sense tells you to never buy or lease from the guy in control of your pay check.

WOW!! what a can of worms this thread opened. i just completed a 3 year lease purchase. payment was 640 per week settlement deducted whether i worked or not. of that 200 went into a maintenance escrow. the truck had an el cheapo warranty for the first year but at least it did cover the egr problems and a turbo which kept me out of the hole that gets most new o/o right off the bat. i grumbled and griped and got mad and cussed dispatch the whole time but you know what; i worked my ass off, spent on avg about 4 days a month at home, and gave up everything that i liked to do just to make sure my wife and kids had what they needed. and for those 3 years i cleared around 80 grand a year not great but a decent living nontheless. the point is if you are of a mind to work(and i will work anyman in the dirt and thats a fact) it can be done. sacrifices have to be taken sometimes and you live and learn from them. so i guess the moral is if you want to lease make sure the numbers are right to begin with, there is some kind of warranty to take care of the initial problems that most used trucks will have in the first 6 months back on the road, your carrier has enough miles to keep you going and thick enough skin to tolerate you when you call and complain, and your willing to do whatever it takes to get thru it. if after all this you find yourself in a lease that you can't live with. park it and go be an employee somewhere. the lease company will just take the truck and give to the next guy that walks thru the door. on another note i am moving in another direction now. either going to flatbed, or dry bulk or would really like to do the bullwagons but all i know about it is they make super good money but definitely earn every penny and that is right up my alley. any suggestions would be appreciated.

they all moan how there broke all the time but they never say how they got there. or if they do it's they wern't getting enough miles ok so were they refusing alot of loads were they sitting in a truck stop complaining were they crying to go home to mama everyday? cash advances only reason to take advances is because you have no money in the bank to back you up wich in that case you have no bussiness leasing! have they taken a bussiness class on how to be a successfull bussiness owner? how about a diesel mechanic's class terry spoke about breakdowns chances are the damm thing will break down in the desert where it can't be gotten to.hate to see a tow bill for that .and some lease purchases have a balloon payment at the end of the lease term screw that!!

another thing!! how would some of these guys last out there under there own authority with not enough in the bank to cover there butts after dropping a load and the broker don't pay em for 3 months not all brokers pay right away

So do you have a plan if you have a catostropic failure like rearend engine . Thats the way i see it . My motor blows i walk . I cant walk from a bank. I mean there are things that happen in life you cant prevent . Bank doesnt care . With a lease you have a way out. Yea companys take advantage . But I tried the bank thing 10,000 down also tried freightliner . Ive got no debt . I just dont have credit either. I dont stand a chance . SO i went with the lease. 3yrs trucks mine then im doing local work pays much better. Until then i do my time. Good thing marine corps taught me patience otherwise i probably fail like so many others

You do a mixture of brokers that do pay right away and brokers that take longer.

Amazing people who havent spoke from experience keep regurgitate the sameting over and over. They only speak from what others have said even they havent experience. LOL. I got a buddy at the house did a lease 10yrs ago. He took his truck went home signed on with a company still works there. 2011 he made 136,000 . Home every night works 1 day a weekend a month. Thanks to a lease cause his credit was torn up thru divorce alimony. He still laughing every week when goes to the bank . God bless him for it. You wanna succeed you can . You have to want it . Most of you cry babys still sucking ###. Success Not A Destination, Its A Journey. Thats the mindset you gotta have.

Suppose a needle junky approached you and offered you a heroin needle. And you tell him no way, that stuff will destroy you.

And he says "man, you cry babies have never even done it before, how do you know it'll destroy you if you've never tried it?"

You'd probably laugh at the guy and walk away, or tell him to go to hell or whatever. But you'd know that his "you've never tried it so how would you know anything" argument doesn't hold water. You can go to any drug rehab center and see what it does to people.

It ain't much different with this lease purchase crap. I've been hearing nothing but bad things about lease purchase programs for the entire 7 years I've been in the trucking industry, except coming from those who are trying to promote them for their own financial gain, such as recruiters for those companies. On occasion, I've even seen drivers in those lease programs talk about them like they're the greatest thing since sliced bread, because if they can convince somebody, they'll get a big referral bonus from their company and maybe even be able to pay for their fuel next week.

If a lease purchase program is the only way you can obtain a truck of your own, then I guess that's what you gotta do, but of all of the lease purchase programs I've looked into (never considered them, just looked into them out of morbid curiosity) I never saw one that wasn't intentionally set up to screw the driver.

There's a reason why trucking companies ignore your credit rating when offering you a lease. They REALLY WANT YOU TO DO IT because they know they're going to be making a ****-ton of money off of you.

I did the reefer thing made good money. Then they came out with elogs . Game over. Running out of route to fuel washouts sittin waiting for the produce. Not for me . Oh dont get me wrong i made good money . Then the mexicans took over the docks. Gotta have a pallet jack license now . Whatever it take to make you get back in that truck so you write them a com check there on it.
