I been reading these forums and other trucking forums about 4-5 times a week, and i saw a post about this guy saying something about its not for everybody but its a good career if you can hang in there. I dont know if this is me or not but it seems like 69% of the things i read is negative towards trucking. I dont know if these trucking forums are filled with drivers that wine like babies or just not satisfied with their job. I really want to start trucking but sometimes i question that desision about getting into the industry from reading the forums all the time, can someone shed some light on this topic please?

Have you ever worked somewhere that there wasn't a portion of workers, probably a large portion, that bitched and moaned about the company, and knew that they could run it better? The same goes for trucking. lol.

I agree biker,Canada can be a nitemare.One of the most breathtaking sites I have ever seen out there besides the bc mountains was a town called Mountainview.Talk about up close and personal with the mountains.It's deffinately a MUST SEE exp.The bridge overlooking Toronto is magnificent as well.Can't think of the name.

These are the reason's I hate trucking today...the point was to show how much it has changed, and NOT for the better.
This may come as a shock, but the entire puspose of these boards is for folks to put forth opinions. I'm sorry it bruised your ego when you realized I didn't like your opinion. Fact is, you have a negative attitude, and perhaps you would be happier in a different industry.
The challenge, in any industry is to be able to adapt with the times in order to succeed. You can do this as a company driver, or an owner operator. Be happy and successful, I mean.
Or the other option is that you can get stuck on how things used to be, and convince yourself it was better, and piss and moan about it. Personally, I think certain things were better and worse then, and certain things are better and worse now.
Oh, and when I get to hell, I'll be your dispatcher.

The thing I have learned most out of my career as a truck driver, is to let a lot of things slide. Not to get to involved it might come back to bite you in the ass someday.
This is one of them times, so I will just slide back out of the way here..Somebody get this thread back on topic..
But, one last thing before I go...Sinister there is no way you could handle me as a driver and you as a dispatcher...I guarantee that much to you..:tiphat:

I love trucking. It pays my bills and provides the kind of quality entertainment you'll never get behind the walls of some office or factory.
I have been trucking for a long time. I too recall, fondly, the fuel for less than a buck, less strict regulation, and the era when truckers were looked upon as adventurous knights in shining armour (or cowboy hat and pointy toed boots). Man, oh man, has all of that ever changed.
Fortunately, I've adapted to the higher cost. I've learned how to be more dodgeful with the regulations. Sandals, baggy shorts, and my black FTW tee-shirt is now the uniform of choice. All in all, my style of trucking is far more laid back than it once was. No more Black Beauties (damnit they were fun), no more trailer whipping errant motorist, and I quit running from one truck stop to the next trying to beat the pac-man machines. Although I earn less money than during the "balls to the wall" days, I keep more of it.
Now a days, about the only thing that I don't like about trucking are the arrogant school-boys who think they are God's gift to trucking, when in reality, they don't have enough common sense to pour piss from a boot with the instructions written on the heel. Arrogance sucks... but, it can be amusing.

In answer to this threads title...I think this sentiment about sizes it all up. I doesnt seem as if we have it tough enough, what with DOT, state cops, 4-wheelers, and idiots at the truck stops...no, we have to have a bit more arrogance from within our own ranks...Humpff!

how many times i gotta say this, i don't HATE trucking. I HATE being bored and alone out there . Truck driving is great, if i am able to have a life also. I am too out going and i don't do bored well. I get bored, i get in trouble.
BTW........this is the only truck forum i visit now. There are some people i like chatting with here and see how they are doing.

well i will bet that in the "old days" there were plenty of truck drivers saying that truck driving going down hill in those days.
i've talked to drivers from the 70's and heard their stories- like having to purchase fuel in every state they drive thru in so each state got thier taxes
plus it is hard to imagine not having cell phones and keeping in touch with family.
or living without air conditioning or cruise control?
what about having nice places like trucker forums to hang out at with your internet connection?
one thing i see is old drivers getting frustrated that the new guys dont listen to thier cb's... and i think they feel a lack of truckers sticking together.
but this is a trend with society as a whole- people dont even know neighbors anymore either.

I know it jeff.Back before loggbooks were invented,trks did'nt have jakes either.Also drivers tell me how much fun truck driving use to be.People helping eachother.drivers having a get together in the truckstop parking lot.I bet it was alot of fun.But now drivers complain about everything.Some have a case of road rage.No wonder the laws are more strickers on truckers then 4wheelers.
well i remember those days well, fondly back in those days i started hauling produce with a 38 ft bunker and blower trailer ,lengal length was 55 ft and we could only gross 73280, we had log books but it really didnt make any difference where you filled them out or not, the fine was 25.00 if you got caught, BUT there was no AC,no POWER STEERING,BOUT HALF THE TIME NO RADIO, WE DID HAVE A CB THAT YOU COULD ACTUALLY TALK ON , no air ride, no jake break, whats a cell phone,all the things that a drive takes for granted today were none exsistant back then i guess the most important thing we had to me anyway was comodery we took care of each other if one got down there was always some one to pick him up, it worked rather well, now that is almost none exsistant anymore thanks to the feds and there truck driving schools cant learn all that in a parking lot .
but today there are good things and good times just takes longer to run across them and there are also some damn good drivers out there its just that the bad ones make so much racket you cany hear about the good but they are there every once in awhile i run across a new driver that is doing his thing and doing it right and when i do i do my best to buy the coffee, all out here today are not bad just the bad make so much damn noise.
the equipment is better , it rides better, you stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter so a lot of things that have changed is for the better except the damn cops and the dot there worse BUT you cant have it all good .
i still along with a few old goats like myself hold my hand out in friendship to anyone and am more then willing to help those in need comadery is not dead just harder to find thanks to all the rambos out there we just dont have time for it but even the young ones learn sooner or later if they last to most of them its just an adventure another tou to play with, you want adventure try to imagine years ago when the grape vine in CAL was two lane and you come off the top heading into bakersfiels with no breaks , now that is adventure. things today arent all bad .
