Given today's awful news regarding Alex Trebek, I thought I'd jump in with a few thoughts.
First of all, take a moment to think about just how much progress society has made in the fight against cancer. How did this happen? You guessed it - science.
Science isn't always perfect. Sometimes it's wrong. Sometimes it's really confusing. And sometimes, it's inconvenient as hell. It led to regulations that triggered the rise of DPFs and DEF and what-have-you. Yet, at the same time, it made air that was once so toxic it could kill you (and often did) and turned it into air so clean you might think you were in a clean room. It led to well water losing its color (the bad color, that is), and it gave and then eliminated many of the toxins that we (fortunately) only see in history books with barely any losses in efficiency.
So even when science and its findings are inconvenient as hell (no Mr. Gore, that's not copyright infringement), just remember that in many ways it's the best thing we have. And for people like Mr. Trebek, it very well may save his life.
I sincerely hope Mr. Trebek is able to beat the odds. God speed to him, his family, his colleagues, his friends, and his fans.
And I end with a Jeopardy question:
The clue: in 2019, this man overcame incredible odds to beat cancer and give hope to those battling the disease.
The answer: who is Alex Trebek.
