What is your driving exp + cpm?

My son is a company W2 driver out of Dallas. Him and his team mate work for a Fedex Ground contractor. They get 70 cents a mile, Health insurance that the employer pays for the driver but the driver has to pay for his family. He does pay quite a bit for his families health insurance. He and his partner drive about 6000 miles a week but they are hustlers. They are a "wild " team .. meaning that they don't drive a dedicated route. They stay out for at least a month at a time.
It is a hard life but they do make $70,000 to $80,000 per year. Yes, that is about $2100 per week. I have seen them hit 7000 miles in a week. They work 42 to 45 weeks a year. I think they are hoping to hit $90,000 this year.

My son found Fedex after being a reefer driver and having to waste 20 to 30 hours a week waiting to be loaded and unloaded and waiting to get the trailer washed out. Don't forget the thrill of trying to find some place to go down every night. At Fedex, he doesn't have any of that. There are times they have to wait at a terminal for a run. Never too long. But they know how to work the system. they consistently get more miles than most other Fedex Ground drivers.

However, most drivers can't live with that life style. Most FEDEX Ground drivers try to find dedicated 5 day routes where they take 2 days a week off but to get those jobs, they have to settle for 55 to 60 cents per mile and they only get 4500 to 5000 miles per week. There are very few Fedex ground drivers that get to drive solo.

My son and his partner are very rare breeds. They get along with each other. they are both runners. They have situations where they can be out for months at a time if they wish. But they do mkae more money that 90% of the compaby drivers out there with none of the risk that goes with being an owner operator or a lease operator.

That's a lot of work and dedication for 80k.

Wow dude, I have never seen anyone as conceded as you are.

FYI, one thing I learned over the years is that those who brag about their income are usually lying.

Also you do not drive 3,500ish miles a week if you're home every weekend. Get out of here with your lying. 🙄
I find when most guys quote pay you can minus about 25/30% and the truth is generally somewhere inbetween.

Lease Operators will often quote "gross settlements" when Bullcraping at the Truckstop lunch counter but forget to mention their expenses.

I get 45 cpm and on "average" I clear 6/7 hundred per week "take home".

Sure I could run Abit harder do a hundred or two more better per week but I'm Lazy and don't wanna push it that hard...

Besides that extra would put me in a higher tax bracket and get eaten up by uncle sam anyways so why bother?

Practical will short you about 8% of the actual miles driven but it’s better than the HHM mile ass ripping you’ll take.

30% depends on how good the freight is.
