What have you done in the past to "collect" your money?

Every now and then someone dose a job for a person or company and they "forget" to pay for the job you have done.
This was kinda brought up in another post I made in what I did to collect money from a broker that I had used. So here is what I done with this broker.

This guy had loads going right back to are home area and the pay was just above avg. for loads coming out of Laredo so we started haul them. For the first 8 months or so he was paying within 30~35 days after he received the paper work. Then slowly over another month or so it was takin 40~50 days to pay so we stopped hauling for him. In the end he owed us a little over $20K and just over $7K alone was mine. Phone calls went unanswered.

So I unloaded in Laredo on a Thursday and when I called in to tell the boss I was unloaded I told him while I was in town I was going to go "collect" my money, his reply "while your at it get mine to and I'll cut you in on what you collect". Later that afternoon I was planing on what I was going to do to get this guys attention and thats when Injun rolls up and I met her for the first time.

So my plan was to bobtail over to this guys place and scope out the joint, and see what or who was there at night, and just as I figure locked up and no one there. Come Friday I head back there to see the guy, he wasnt there and after a couple heated phone calls and his refusal to come see me at his own place of business, I told the the guy working in the office I was going to take the trailer that I had backed under when I got there and if he wanted it back before I sold it he better find me. I all ready had a guy that was going to buy it lined up and he knew what I was doing so I took it to him and said its all yours come Monday if I dont get my money.
Before I got back to the truck stop to get my trailer my phone was ringing. After another even more heated conversation I told him to either calm the hell down and pay up by Monday or the trailer was gone.

Fast forward to Sunday afternoon we met and had a talk for about an hour and I got a check for the full amount. So then he asked, so when are you going to bring my trailer back? I replied, after I cash this check Monday and if its good I'll bring it to you, it was and I took it back.

Now I know the old saying, Two wrongs don't make it right, but it will damn sure get you even.

Has anyone else had to collect there money from a broker or carrier and took matters into there on hands to do it?

I have never not gotten money I was owed for working. I have had personal debts owed to me that were never paid, though. My solution there is simple- they lost my friendship. That's punishment enough. I'm not high drama- if someone doesn't treat me right in any way, I will just leave.

We used to have a broker up here, let's call him Bob and say the brokerage company was Pembroke, who liked to get as much 6 months behind on paying us. Us local guys kind of had a mini strike and stopped hauling his freight, since he was the lead broker for Alcoa in Massena and was contracted to provide trucks to cover the loads, by noon of that day he was in a big bind to get the loads pulled. He got a few guys to cover his backside, one of them, Let's call him Steve, picked up a load but instead of delivering it, took it to a fenced in lumberyard just down the road from where I live, dropped the load off there and locked it up. The lumberyard is owned by the Justice of the Peace. 2 days later Alcoa called Bob inquiring on their product. Bob called Steve, Steve told him what he did and where it was and said as soon as he had all the cash Bob owed him, Steve would deliver the load. Bob said he was gonna call the cops, Steve said that he already had and that the JP had placed a hold on the aluminum in dispute. Bob paid everything owed Steve the next morning.

To tell you what kind of vermin Bob the broker was. He called me up in a absolute frenzy to get a 'hot' load covered going to Cleveland Works, said it was already loaded on one of his flats and all I needed to do was hook up and go and he already had a backhaul for me, reason why nobody wanted it was a huge Nor'easter was bearing down on us. Being young and gullible, I took it. Fought the blizzard all the way out, delivered the load, when I got the settlement, the S.O.B. had charged me $200 trailer rent. I asked him if he was insane, he said that he billed me because I used his trailer to haul the load and he only rented the trailer on a 'weekly' basis. I went ballistic, never did get my $200 back

While there are other ways to deal with personal debts owed to you by friends or family are just as affected as the cold shoulder treatment. With a employer there are other means to collect whats owed to you as well that will keep you from getting in trouble as well.
But I have always for the most partlike to take matters into my hands. How many times have you heard someone say the old line, "So sue me, you cant get blood from a turnip." While this is true I would just as soon take the turnip and hold it just to see what I can get for it.

How many times have you heard someone say the old line, "So sue me, you cant get blood from a turnip." While this is true I would just as soon take the turnip and hold it just to see what I can get for it.

I don't sue.

I don't call cops.

I don't walk away without what's owed me.

I'll take it to whatever level is necessary to complete the transaction!

Most of the people that deal with me on a regular basis understand how I handle things and never give me any trouble...A few have learned the "hard way" over the years that I mean what I say.

Uh...I would think that one look at you would be enough to convince anyone to go along with the program. There have actually been people try to skate on you?
