Trump terrifs

As far as border crossings go it would be one extra piece of paper showing the IMPORTER paid the tax or tariff back in the day. These days everything is done electronically so there would be no real difference.

As far as shipments go... Probably no difference at all. Last time around Trump Tariffed aluminum, the price went up, but the amount shipped remained the same.
But then again last time was only 10% now it's 25%.

Many people have a misunderstanding of how tariffs work.
It's an import tax. Pretty simple.
The buyer pays the tax not the seller.
As of today, the price of everything that the U.S. imports from Mexico and Canada just went up 25% and everything the U.S. imports from China went up 10%.

Another thing about tariffs is they drive inflation.
If you have an imported widget that is 25% more than a domestic widget, The domestic producer will up their price to near what the imported tariffed widget costs.
I get the buy locally and buy products made in the country you live in and support your economy; it makes sense, and I fully support that! I do that.

But when locally, onshore product prices get jacked up to near the tariff product cost just because they can, it creates inflation.

It's mostly to pacify the masses that only hear about a tax on a foreign country and to make DJT look good to them. The average member of the populous has no business sense at all.
It's supposed to level the playing field between domestic manufacturers and the ones in China or other countries that have the unfair advantages of extremely cheap labor and almost no environmental or OSHA type of regulations to comply with.

It's kind of strange - China is a communist country but when it comes to industry they have more freedom than we do.

But anyway the domestic manufacturers will not just jack their prices up to match the import tax. They are struggling due to the unfriendly business environment in our "free" country. This is a lifeline. Like I said it's an attempt to level the playing field and make that dirt cheap sweat shop labor less profitable to exploit.

I don't know why the f* he's doing it with Canada though. American industry is not fleeing to Canada it's fleeing to China. Canada is a first world country with (as far as I know) reasonable environmental and safety regulations and labor laws.

I think the only advantage Canada has over the US is unions have less power. That's why Hollywood makes so many movies in Canada. No actors guild to jack up production costs.

JT just announced Tariffs on American goods. A few select goods. This is not the way.
IMO the right thing to do was nothing!
All he had to do was sit back and do nothing and he fucked that up!

Good!
Because for some reason there is a deal where what CARB does in the U.S. so shall go in Canada.
I don't even know if we assemble trucks here in Canada anymore. We had Navistar in Chatham ON, but they are gone, and I think Western Star is gone from B.C.

One thing I do know is I have Tariff talk fatigue. On "X" I am done reading about it, I am even blocking people on both sides of the border.

I am glad that we here did not get too deep into it as I think we are all friends, and I am only one shunter guy that has no control over any of this.

This is not like the George Dubya Bush era where I had him on speed dial. :biglaugh:
