Trucking’s EV endgame still far off, experts agree

Commercial vehicle electrification will likely loom large in the new $2 trillion-plus infrastructure bill Congress is hashing out, though experts in the industry admit they only have a small fraction of the complex picture figured out. At the top of the list are regulations, incentives and charging infrastructure, which a panel of trucking industry experts discussed in a March 25 webinar called “Learning from Leaders for a More Sustainable Fleet,” held by ACT News.

While the path to sustainability is still one worth taking, the big problem in the near term Drew Cullen, senior vice president of fuels and facility services for Penske Transportation Solutions, found is that fleets must take on a lot of risk when purchasing battery-electric trucks, while the reward is uncertain. Penske should know, as the logistics company operates 100 Classes 1-8 BEVs and has installed a DC fast charging network in Southern California. As always the goal is continuous improvement and trying to find ways to” do the work of 12 trucks with 10 trucks.”

Seriously, what is the goal of everything going electric?
It can't honestly be the environment. Look at what it takes to mine the earth for the materials to build batteries and the energy sources needed to recharge them. look at how toxic batteries are at end of their life cycle.
I don't know for sure how that compares to fossil fuels but lets not kid ourselves thinking electric is THE solution.

It's virtue signaling. They see a lack of tailpipe and think that's it.

Everyone is so wrapped up in "Fossil fuel BAD!" that they haven't thought things that far out. Our grid isn't even close to capable of handling the power load needed for full electrification.

It was funny when they had rolling blackouts up in the Bay Area because of the fires and all the Tesla owners were pissed because they couldn't charge their cars.

Before it's even possible for everything to go electric, the Governments of the world will finally expose that UFO's are real and we will learn just how them green/Grey little bastards power them damned things and why they can skirt the laws of physics.

You are so right!
It occurs to me (2 shots of fireball and a triple rum and seven in. Okay, maybe a quadruple.) that much of this is related to the woefully inadequate state of science education. Few people comprehend the energy density of fuel, and it shows in the electrification push. They really have no clue of just how much power we're talking about.

Maybe it is time to force an upgrade?
They'll definitely need to build more power plants. Real ones too, not just a bunch of silly windmills and solar arrays that appease the greens but can't hold a candle to traditional power plants.

Right now they're trying to shut down all the nuclear plants in Illinois so we can have rolling blackouts like California.
