Truckers Strike April 1, 2008

Well, here is is Sunday morning. The shutdown started a week ago and already most drivers I've spoken to in the past two days are heading back out tomorrow. We made a lot of fuss, and then it came time to to show up and speak up no one did. WV state police were planning on 600 - 800 trucks for the hillbilly convoy, fewer than 100 showed up. The convoy to Atlanta was planning on 250 truck, how many were there? I heard estimates of 50 - 75, what happened? My grandma has a saying that is so appropriate here, either poop (not her word) or get off the pot. If you're unhappy, tell the whole world. You don't need to come here and vent, WE know how bad it is.

I have offered to publish a newsletter that would be e-mailed to any driver, o/o, leased, company, farm or toyota camry. NO ONE acknowledged my offer, I was on 6 different chats at one point, no one answered. WE need an organization to provide communication and to speak for as many of us as possible, short of that, we need a central connunication, one which I offered to provide since it is something I do professionally anyway. Everyone wants a solution, but no one want to be the mechanism to make it happen.

I did THREE interviews on Tuesday. I was so sick I could barely talk, but I did THREE interviews, what did YOU do? I made over 250 phone calls, EVERY member of the senate, all the state reps from Georgia, the governor of GA, the big four presidental candidates, the WHITE HOUSE. WHO DID YOU CALL????

One more time, I am willing to put together and e-publish a newsletter addressing out concerns and "demands". We have to work together to make any difference. If we choose to sit and wait for everyone else to work, the we have and will continue to fail.

Protesting truckers get pledge from West Virginia governor
April 04, 2008 20:59 EDT

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- All that horn-honking today at the West Virginia state Capitol may have paid off for truckers disgusted with diesel prices of more than $4 a gallon.

More than 60 rigs rumbled off Interstate 64/77 and pulled up to the seat of state government in Charleston to demand relief.

Before the truckers drove off, Governor Joe Manchin told the protest leaders that he'd ask President Bush to release some of the strategic petroleum reserve to help stabilize the cost. But he noted that would only be a short term fix.

We not winning the war yet..but I believe some battles :order:

Diesel prices averaged $4.14 per gallon in West Virginia today. According to AAA, that's up $1.21 from a year ago.

I've been thinking.....

Howdy guys!!

I've had a brilliant (?) idea to help get the word out. How bout we post a request for volunteers to go to their local truckstops and post some type of flyer as our own "call to action". I could put something together in a few minutes if we could agree on content...

There are several within an hour or so of my house. I'll hop in the truck Wednesday on my day off and put out a couple hundred flyers. Right now it costs 9 cents a copy at OfficeMax for black and white copies. No extra charge for colored paper. For 20 bucks you could do a couple hundred flyers and get the word out.

I'm totally frustrated with the situation right now. I can't say I'm shocked things ended up this way, remember, we ARE talking about truckdrivers!!

LET'S MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!

Hit me and let me know what you think!

Good idea, But you would need something substantial to put on the flyer. something like next step. We are working on things right now and getting things ORGANIZED.

BE SURE ANY FLYERS OR ANY OTHER MATERIAL HANDED OUT HAS THIS SITE AND THE AMERICAN DRIVER HOME PAGE ON IT. The more people we can communicate with the better

LOL I have knew about this rally to DC for DAYS. I mentioned it to the media on the last shut down.

I too have spoke to Mark but knew about it long before I really talked to him. We just confirmed things and what he wants me to do.

****FOLLOW ME TO D.C.
***** ON 4/28/08 RALLY IN D.C.
***PULL THE PLUG ON MAY 5TH 2008*** THEY WILL LISTEN THEN!!!!
***********************************
This DOES affect each and every one of us.
We are all digging deep in our pockets for gas, groceries, $$ to buy heating oil, etc.
If enough people ban together and draw the attention from the right people we will be heard, this means we will make a difference.
Remember, the prices all trickle down to the consumer.
Even if you aren't in the trucking industry you are feeling the crunch.
LETS TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!!! STAND UP, SPEAK OUT OR GO BROKE!!!

I agree!!! I SAW NO SYMPATHY FOR THIS MAN WHEN HE WAS TALKING ABOUT HIS ELECTRIC BEING SHUT OFF AND IT BROKE MY HEART. FOR SO MANY OF US MONEY IS SERIOUSLY TIGHT. JUST SO YOU KNOW I AM DISABLED AND MY HUSBAND IS OUR SOLE SUPPORTER AND WE ARE STILL RAISING A 12 YEAR OLD. SO DON'T THINK THIS WILL NOT HIT US HARD. BUT THERE ARE SO MANY OF US WHO WILL GO UNDER IF THINGS DONT CHANGE. BUT I WILL DANG IF I WILL SIT BACK AND DO NOTHING . I WOULD RATHER STARVE THAN SIT BACK AND MAKE THESE COMPANIES WHO ARE MAKING MONEY WHILE BREAKING US
My husband is the only one working, and I can't.( and sorry but yes he loaded today, and yes it's cheap and we hope he get's enough loads to pay for the fuel, so we can try to at least make one load this week to pay some of the bills).I alway's fought but the truth is if history repeats it's self I belive we r screwed. It's the Economy that crashed and is bring us all down. Alot of u from the post r here in Fla. We started going under befor other state's. And if your a flatbed, and just run intrastate when the work died so did the trucks. He's been watching the papers ck ur"s see what kind of jobs r out there and what they pay.
Know one will help. they know if u lose ur job u most likely wont be able to replace it..This whole everything has really ticked me off. But we r standing alone. and it's a election year so, Who has stood up and addressed this. KNOW ONE, And I don't think they will.Because right now they don't know how.By, Oh I hate saying this. but the consitution give's us right's. And one of those little things is The right to work. I need to say I HATE LAWYER'S. I think they are worse then a snake in the grass, The Oil companies r making billion's off us. And they have a monopoly. in sorts. U can't sue the Goverment, They r protected. But by law another word I don't like they r price gouging. So maybe we the people can go after the oil companies. Find a lawyer who is not scared of politic's and put it to them. Protesting does'nt scare them, Do u know the guy we buy our gas and fuel from only make's a penny per gallon. So it's not the independent stations. And a strike we need demands a list of them so we can negotiate. And One demand is that the elec.co. who also have a monopoly can't shut us off for something the Goverment has caused. After all who put us in a recession. I will still fight but like I said some money is better then none.So what ever work he finds we need to load. I don't know what else to do. insurance is running out, can't pay it , fuel is on credit, so we only fuel per run. And I know we all our like this. Maybe claim laid-off and make a mad dash to welfare.............
That would bring some attention.Someone needs to go back and reread all these boards and keep copies of every ones idea's.

I hate to say this but hauling cheap loads just to try to make the fuel cost is not going to help. It is also the reason loads are staying cheap. Believe me i know how you feel about the money but this is only delaying your demise.

"LUNACHIC" GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. THERE IS SO MUCH BEING DONE RIGHT NOW THAT I GUESS YOUR NOT HEARING ABOUT. PLEASE VISIT "THE AMERICAN DRIVER.COM" CLICK AT THE RIGHT HAND CORNER WHERE IT SAYS TRUCKERS AND CITIZENS UNITE. THIS MIGHT LIFT YOUR SPIRITS.

If we can haul at least 4 loads local, after fuel that little extra will help pay a bill. we shut down on the first, We started turning down cheap loads month's ago, and still wont haul out of a 100miles, unless we name the price and if we can't find a back haul if they wont pay what we want we wont touch it, Also I will admit we r staying away from brokers. And r running with only $300,000.00 lib. instead of millon. Which most brokers want. I do want to say when we do turn down a load someone alway's loaded it. We r under, have been for awhile. My husband has been looking for a job. r none really.
the jobs that paid 12hr last year r down to 9. So instead of week to week we r day to day.Like most of u. If we don't keep working I don't think most of us have the money to keep fighting while being homeless for not paying our morg. Or die from starvation. If it came down to that u still would not load? I'm a fighter and I'll keep fighting. but we need to get it together. I just think we need to find a direction that will work and do it! Right now it's all over the place except the news and news papers. And we need somebody who is someone to stand with us, Then people will listen. God-Bless us all, we need it.

MY HUSBAND MADE A AGREEMENT ABOUT A MONTH AGO WITH THE DRIVERS WHERE HE WORKS NOT TO HAUL ANYMORE CHEAP LOADS AND THEY AGREED. AS TIME WENT ON HE FOUND OUT THEY WERE HAULING THEM ANYWAY. WHAT A DISPOINTMENT. HOW STUPID. I THOUGHT TENN. WAS SUPPOSE TO BE THE VOLUNTEER STATE AND WE CAN'T GET THESE GUYS HERE TO VOLUNTERR AND STAND UP FOR THE CAUSE. GUESS WE NEED TO LIGHT A FIRE UNDER THEIR A***S.

That's the big problem, and always has been. They are better known as "SCABS" !! They talk with you and agree with you and when you turn around and walk away they stab you in the back . They say they will shut down or not haul cheap loads and as soon as you and others turn those loads down, they "jump" right on them. They see it as a chance for them to get a lot of loads very fast and very easy to make some "quick money", as they see it. They don't care who they hurt to do it, all they care about is themselves. Lunachic, I'm not talking about your husband, believe me. I know where you and your family are at. I've been there and done that. It's a shame that we have all let it get this bad before we decided to finally do something. This Didn't JUST Happen. It has taken many years of all of us saying "It's Gotta Get Better". Like I said earlier, we need to all get together like I've heard so many other organizations do, and try to get together some kind of a "Fund" to help out the ones like Lunachic and others that are just on the verge of losing everything they have, including their pride and self-respect. It's time to "Really Do Something"
