now i hear the shut down was starting on the 15th of april, at least here in arizona but i havn't heard anything about it until a few days ago im kinda confused about it im a local driver in the middle of no where and dont hear much on the cb not to mention im a driver of a super twelve dump truck so i dont know if i even count

ONE GUY POSTED ON HERE YESTERDAY AND I THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY. HE WAS FROM SAN ANTONIO, TX. AND HE SAID PEOPLE HAD HEARD ABOUT THE STRIKE ON THE NEWS THERE AND THEY WERE RUSHING TO GROGERY STORES TO BUY UP FOOD AND WATER AND BUYING GAS. GUESS TX. CAN APPRECIATE THE POWER THE TRUCK DRIVER HAS BECAUSE FROM THE WAY HE TALKED PEOPLE WERE SCARED. SEE WHAT THE MEDIA CAUSED THERE.

We need much more of that. The more the media scares people, the more they will buy things up, the quicker the shortages will start showing up, and the Gov. will see just how serious this problem is. Please Everyone, Don't Stop Now!!! We have a great start here, please hang on with us if you possibly can. We should probably start trying to pitch in and help the ones who are starting to hurt the worst with necessity bills (electric, heat, food). We need to stand together and we need to help and support each other.

JUST SO YOU KNOW I'M NOT JUST BLOWING SMOKE, THIS IS NOT MY FIRST BATTLE I'VE EVER FOUGHT AND I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING. I HAVE FOUGHT BATTLES THAT I WAS TOLD I COULDNT'T WIN AND I DID. WHEN I KNOW IM RIGHT I DON'T GIVE UP OR GO AWAY. I HAD A MAN WHO WAS RUNNING FOR COUNCIL AND I CONTACTED HIM TO HELP ME WITH OUR SCHOOL BOARD WE FOUGHT A 6 MONTH BATTLE AND WON. HE TOLD ME HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYONE FIGHT SO HARD FOR ANYTHING. I DEVOTED EVERY DAY FOR 6 MONTHS TO GET WHAT I WANTED. IF I KNOW IM RIGHT , I WILL FIGHT YOU TOOTH AND NAIL. I WILL EAT , SLEEP I, WHICH IS WHAT I,M DOING NOW. I TOOK ON MY HUSBANDS CO. 2 YEARS AGO WHEN THEY WERE GIVEING 4 DRIVERS ALL THE GRAY WORK WHILE THE OTHER DRIVERS WERE TAKING THE SCRAPS. I WAS SICK OF HEARING EVERYONE COMPLAIN AND WHILE THEY WERE AFRAID TO STAND UP FOR THEMSELVES SAYING THEY WILL JUST FIRE US. IF IM GOING DOWN I REFUESE TO GO DOWN WIWTHOUT A FIGHT FIRST, WHICH IS WHAT I TOLD THE OWNER OF HIS COMPANY. AT THE RATE THEY WERE GOING THEY WERE NOT GOING TO SURVIVE ANYWAY SO WHAT WERE THEY GOING TO LOOSE. YOU TRUCKERS HAVE SO MUCH POWER THAT IT IS SCARY. YOU CAN BRING THIS COUNTRY TO ITS KNEES. HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE CAN SAY THAT? YOU JUST HAVE TO EXCERCISE THAT POWER. IF YOUR COMPANY HAS THE OPINION ,LIKE MY HUSBANDS, THAT YOU NEED THEM FOR YOUR LIVELYHOOD, YOU HAVE TO SHOW THEM WHO REALLY NEEDS YOU, BECAUSE WITHOUT YOU TO HAUL THEIR FREIGHT THEY WOULD NOT HAVE A JOB EITHER, WHICH IS WHAT WE SHOWED MY HUSBANDS CO. APRIL 1ST. WHEN HE HAD NO DRIVERS AND CALLED MY HUSBAND 3;oo ON THE FIRST DAY BEGGING HIM TO COME BACK TO WORK AND BRING THE OTHER DRIVERS.

I agree!!! I SAW NO SYMPATHY FOR THIS MAN WHEN HE WAS TALKING ABOUT HIS ELECTRIC BEING SHUT OFF AND IT BROKE MY HEART. FOR SO MANY OF US MONEY IS SERIOUSLY TIGHT. JUST SO YOU KNOW I AM DISABLED AND MY HUSBAND IS OUR SOLE SUPPORTER AND WE ARE STILL RAISING A 12 YEAR OLD. SO DON'T THINK THIS WILL NOT HIT US HARD. BUT THERE ARE SO MANY OF US WHO WILL GO UNDER IF THINGS DONT CHANGE. BUT I WILL DANG IF I WILL SIT BACK AND DO NOTHING . Well the shutdown has not gotten near the attention in the national press that we all were hoping for, after Friday I think that we all need to take a step back and get organized. We need to come together and start our own organization, the ooida has little to no concern for our well being, I know that they will never get another subscription from myself.
We need an organization that will specialize only in the concerns of owner operators not company drivers.
An organization that as a spokesman that will address our concerns, not to local television and radio stations, but to our elected officials and the national media. (cnn,fox,msnbc and other cable outfits do not have a large audience share compared to the big three).
We also need to work together in our local regions county,state,region to contact our elected officials and voice our concerns.
Everyone likes to say that we need to stand together with all trucking companies, I do not believe this to be the case, these large publicly owned trucking outfits with anywhere from 5.000 to 10.000 trucks will never have the same worries as we owner operators will have.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!I I have just spoken with Mark Kirsch from "THE AMERICAN DRIVER.COM. He is in PENNESYLVINIA. He knows what he is doing. Go to their home page and click at the top right hand corner where it says truckers and citizens unite. They are taking a step back to organize and belive me they are organized. He said so far he has a representave from 24 states. He said they are going to Washington APRIL 28TH AND DEMAND ACTION OR SHUT THIS COUNTRY DOWN ON MAY 5TH. THEY PLAN OF BLOCKING FUEL STATIONS, RALLY'S WITH CITIZENS , MOTOR CYCLES, FARMERS . HE AGREED WITH THE THINGS I WAS TALKING ABOUT ON THIS WEB SIT LAST NIGHT. They are VERY serious about this. He requested my email address so he could keep in touch.

Well, here is is Sunday morning. The shutdown started a week ago and already most drivers I've spoken to in the past two days are heading back out tomorrow. We made a lot of fuss, and then it came time to to show up and speak up no one did. WV state police were planning on 600 - 800 trucks for the hillbilly convoy, fewer than 100 showed up. The convoy to Atlanta was planning on 250 truck, how many were there? I heard estimates of 50 - 75, what happened? My grandma has a saying that is so appropriate here, either poop (not her word) or get off the pot. If you're unhappy, tell the whole world. You don't need to come here and vent, WE know how bad it is.

I have offered to publish a newsletter that would be e-mailed to any driver, o/o, leased, company, farm or toyota camry. NO ONE acknowledged my offer, I was on 6 different chats at one point, no one answered. WE need an organization to provide communication and to speak for as many of us as possible, short of that, we need a central connunication, one which I offered to provide since it is something I do professionally anyway. Everyone wants a solution, but no one want to be the mechanism to make it happen.

I did THREE interviews on Tuesday. I was so sick I could barely talk, but I did THREE interviews, what did YOU do? I made over 250 phone calls, EVERY member of the senate, all the state reps from Georgia, the governor of GA, the big four presidental candidates, the WHITE HOUSE. WHO DID YOU CALL????

One more time, I am willing to put together and e-publish a newsletter addressing out concerns and "demands". We have to work together to make any difference. If we choose to sit and wait for everyone else to work, the we have and will continue to fail.
