Truckers Strike April 1, 2008

I am not surprised in drivers not shutting down. I got back from the atlanta protest yesterday and kept promoting the shutdown and all i keep hearing is: "I can't afford to shut down for a couple days." MY answer is if you can't afford to Shutdown for a couple days you are in deeper trouble than you realize. How can you afford to keep rolling. WE NEED CHANGE AND NEED IT NOW! If I can get just 1 Government official to listen to me I will give them some solutions to some of the problems we have out here that affect our industry as a whole. All we need is someone to listen and react.

I am still calling my congressmen and woman to try and get a response

Are you an O/OP? Why would you keep rolling when we are shutting down to make the industry as a whole better. The rates are cheap and we are trying to fix the other problems that we ALL have in the industry. Not only are we standing up for all O/OP's but company drivers too.

WE WON!!!!!!!!!!

WE WON!!! A small and short lived victory but never the less we showed the company who really has the power. On April 1st. my husband and the drivers shutdown his company and sent them in a panic. Companies treat these drivers like second hand citizens, they think there is an endless supply of drivers because they can and they know their livelyhood depends on them. But on April 1st my husbands company found out who needed who to survive. The truckers have the power but it has to be in numbers to win. If you don't have enough people to participate you loose your leverage. By 3:oo that evening the company called my husband all but begging him to come back to work and bring back the other drivers. It was GREAT!!!!!! He told him what a nightmare the day was and how many loads they had to give away that day. They loose money 1 day and they are in a panic while these drivers are out there loosing money everyday. Still he found out who depends on who. The problem became that while my husbands company shut down the other companies did not participate , so while they were sitting home loosing money fighting for the cause the other companies sucked up the work and went right along , business as usual. If we fight together and shift the power we can win. If we don't we have no power and nothing will change. The next realization for the companies is that they are going to run the independants out of business and they are not going to have a business to operate. They haven't figured this out yet.

Every one of my drivers are sitting. I went down to the Port of Miami and it was completely empty. I counted on one hand drivers going in and coming out empty. Guess they were just turning the load around. Cops, D.O.T. and tow trucks everywhere. Cops at the bottom of every ramp in Miami that I saw, as well as the surrounding streets that access the port.

I HAVE CONTACTED THE SENATORS FOR TENNESSEE AND ALSO A COUPLE PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON. EVERYONE PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SENATORS. MAKE SOME NOISE.

OK just went to fuel up here in North Florida and payed $4.14 a galllon. I'm not a trucker but I own a angus farm and I don't know how were going to run tractors or haul cattle to the market. So please let us none truckers know what we can do and were we can strike with you!

I am not a trucker either but have been paying close attention to this thread, it sounds interesting. One of the reasons I am watching this is because I was thinking of becoming a trucker, not sure yet though. Anyways ever since I saw this post I have been riding/walking to my work and everywhere I go, even to the grocery store! Hope the strike helps out, we had a line at our gas station today from people filling up in case the stations didn't get any more fuel for a few days or so.

Our whole company has shut down as far as our Houston fleet is concerned They been on strike since the 1st, we have about a good 100 drivers parked. Too bad I cant say the same for the rest of the port drivers in Houston, Im not a trucker, Im a M & R guy for our container yard. We've had about 500 moves in the last 2 days from other carries in Houston. Alot of the other drivers told me they didnt participate cause it wasnt organized. I tried to spread the word but they werent hearing it. Our guys plan to stay shutdown till tuesday so hopefully more join tommorow.

WWRowland Trucking is the company I work for incase yall wanted to know.

This site was totally buzzing on Mon., Tues., & Wed.. Here it is Thurs. and it is as dead as I have ever seen it. Please don't tell me that everyone has given up already. I am wondering what is going on. The media has backed off some, and it's starting to look like the lack of media has everyone giving up, getting quiet, and going back to work. I sure hope I'm wrong. Someone please show me that I'm wrong. Show me that this hasn't all been a waste of time and effort. We can't stop now. We need to be hyping things up and keep the ball rolling. Don't let things go quiet, if you do it will all dye and nothing will have been gained. Stand Up And Make Some Noise. Stand Up For Your Families !!!
