Truck Stop Massage Therapy

Good morning all,

Well, as my subject line would suggest, I'm interested in getting your honest feedback on truck stop massage therapy. I'm aware that it currently exists in certain (truck stop) markets, however, it is quite fragmented. I'd like to offer PROFESSIONAL massage therapy services to drivers at select truck stops throughout the country. I say "professional" as our business will not be engaged in ANY sexual activity whatsoever. This is strictly professional massage therapy for professional drivers.

And now, my questions: (I'm sorry, I know there's quite a few, but try to answer those that apply to you)

>Have you used massage therapy at a truck stop in the past?
>What was your opinion of the treatment?
>Why did you decide to get the massage?
>What would influence your decision to get another massage in the future while on the road?
>If you've never gotten a massage at a truck stop, why haven't you?
>Why do you believe massage therapy is not widely offered at more truck stops?
>How much have you paid for a massage at a truck stop?
>Do you believe massage therapy should be offered at more truck stops? If not, why not?
>Please offer your general thoughts on why professional massage therapy should or should not be offered as a driver amenity at truck stops.
Here are some benefits of professional massage therapy:

*Improves range of motion and decreases low-back pain.
*Increases circulation, allowing the body to pump more oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs.
*Provides exercise and stretching for atrophied muscles.
*Reduces swelling and scar tissue.
*Reduces recovery time from injury/surgery.
*Reduces stress, the cause of nearly 90% of diseases we face.
*Releases endorphins, the body's natural painkiller, thereby reducing *need for medications.
*Stimulates lymph flow and supports the body's natural process of detoxification

Thanks so much for your time and thoughts!

Probably a market for this, but not something I would pay for. I would view this as a waste of money.

I would pay for this service, within reason. I was in a car wreck last August and my left scalene, SCM, trap and levator scapulae were torn. The scar tissue that knitted the muscles back together is less flexible and less strong, causing tension in my neck which eventually causes pain. My right lower back and left rhomboid also act up, although they're nowhere near as bad as my cervical muscles. Therapeutic massage and heat are the only things that help. I will be on the road with my fiancee in October and I anticipate that riding so much is going to cause the tension to increase.

Caveat: I would pay a reasonable price for therapeutic massage. I would NOT bother paying for a spa-grade massage, that is, a massage just for relaxation purposes. Currently my massage therapist charges $30 per half hour, or $50 for a full hour. That's reasonable.

I would think massage therapy is not offered at more truck stops because the more perverted truckers think it's a happy ending massage and don't see the point if it's not. Massage for the sake of massage is probably considered wussy or girly or something.

I'm sure many truckers have either been in car wrecks or have chronic muscle tension due to long hours spent sitting, particularly in the lumbar area and in the shoulders when they have to fight heavy crosswinds for several hours in a row. Therapeutic massage is painful while it's happening, but it provides me with almost two weeks of relief. I think if more truck drivers were willing to try it, particularly if manual cervical traction were applied, they would enjoy the benefits. You'd have to find a way to market it as manly for them to try it though. I don't think many truckers are going to want to strip half naked and get rubbed by a guy, but if you use female therapists they may expect a happy ending. The only way I was persuaded to try massage is when the medical benefits were explained to me. Maybe market it as THERAPEUTIC massage and highlight medical benefits rather than presenting a spa-like atmosphere. Good luck to you.

I could see a value in some massage therapy by a physical therapist, when it is being done in conjunction with actual physical therapy. Sometimes that does help.

Personally i think getting massages are great for the human body. Not only does it feel good but its good for you also. How many things can that be said about? At a truck stop? i don't think so tho. At a reputable massage parlor, sure. And it's only 35-40$ for an hour (w/coupon) So why not. Heck most spend that a week on alcohol.

The only truck stop massage places I've seen usually have the asian women hanging out in the door and you see this young one about 18 yrs old or something hanging out by the door asking people in broken English if they want a massage. I was at one with Mrs. Duck and the asian girl was asking guys if they want a massage, .. we walked past and she saw me with Mrs. Duck and didn't say a word. A female truck driver walked past a few minutes later when we were nearby, (I was trying to drag Mrs. Duck away from a display case full of evil looking glass devil-fairies) and when the female trucker walked by, again, the little China-doll didn't say a word to her. It seemed she only wanted to give "massages" to men who were by themselves. But then one guy did go inside, and the little doll-faced girl walked him inside and then came back out 2 minutes later and a couple minutes later when we were at the register buying one of those evil looking glass devil-fairies, that little China doll was speaking perfect English on her cell phone. As we were leaving, looking into the massage parlor, I could see that the person actually giving the massage was a big old mean-looking hag, maybe 60 yrs old. She looked like this:

good ole bait and switch technique there. Bet he was disappointed. lol.

Got a bunch of massage places around here and altho i got curiosity, i've never done it. I just want the massage , nothing else, and would feel uncomfortable if the "happy ending" issue came up. Think if i ever did it , i would schedule an appointment at the massage school here. Cheaper and just a straight massage. Only thing i fear is it would feel really good and i'd fall asleep. LOL.

Speaking of this, whats the thoughts on accupuncture? Thinking of checking into that for knee issues. Prior military service messed up the knees a bit and after a few surgeries on one and honestly needing them drained and surgically repaired, trying to find a quick fix til the day comes that i can't put it off anymore. Did i happen to mention getting older is awesome. LOL

Well, ... maybe if the massage chick looked like Jennifer Love Hewitt, I'd be interested in a "happy ending". Mrs. Duck always has control of the TV remote so I end up watching stuff like this:

She does have special "assets". Something about her face tho that is kind of a turn off. Like i'd let that stop me if she knocked on the door tho. lol

Yeah; I heard that. I use one thru my chiropractor. I would be leery of a massage parlor. The way my luck goes I would end up on the show cops and everyone that knows me would say hey I know him.... I have known of a few that was supposedly reputable and they got raided. One was here locally not to long ago in a very small community. I would not want to be out of state and take a chance on just walking into one. My chiropractor is high tho. A buck a minute. For that kind of money I think they should not be reputable.....

i see we got the same lucky charm. lol. Thats one chance that you gotta take on going. Kinda why doing research on one would be highly advised. and with all the different kind of massages, how do you know which is the best you'd like? Chiroprcter i bet is pretty good at it i'm thinking. Curiosty hits me on occassions about them.

More like this:
"Yeah it sounds good, but NO one gives a s good a massage as my wife....."

Don't worry, just watch and learn fro the older guys, you'll get the hang of it, lol.

My wife finally found a doctor who does acupuncture and it seemed to work pretty good.
Most insurance won't pay for it but they DO pay for a topical anesthesia, which he gives at the same time.:winking:

I thought chiropractors were quacks until my car wreck - my treating physician, one of the leading soft-tissue injury doctors that we actually used as an expert witness fairly often, suggested I go to one. The massage is first - it loosens up your muscles so the chiropractor can crack your joints. It takes 2-4 visits before you notice any change, but once you do, you really do.
