Truck parking bill picks up two more cosponsors

Congress has a chance to make things right with a truck parking bill that is picking up momentum in the House. However, truckers still need to inform their representative of the bill before it is too late.

HR2187, better known as the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act, is still alive and well in the House of Representatives. Sitting in limbo since March, two more cosponsors were added to the bill this week, signaling renewed interest in truck parking.

On Tuesday, Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., jumped on the truck parking bandwagon. Three days later, Rep. Jennifer Wexton, D-Va., put her name on HR2187’s cosponsor list. With two more Democrats on board, the parking bill is proving to be a bipartisan effort. As of publication, there are 17 Republicans and 11 Democrats cosponsoring the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act.

The northbound scale on I-95 @ mm 286 in Florida is closed and has been since April. Eventually they will rebuild it. In the meantime, it was open for truck parking and could handle up to 50 trucks as a safe haven. Now, the entry and exit ramps are blocked by double Schneider eggs and the ramps at the next exit, both exit and entry look like a truck stop at night.

It's the same with the rest areas. The insides are packed and trucks adorn the ramps for a half mile in and out. Trying to get in and out of a truck stop or fuel stop at night is near an impossibility and the ramps leading to and from the truck stops are simply loaded out to the main road.

This is just it, "Government property" should be public domain.
Who actually owns "government property"? The temporary workers that are in governance or the life long taxpayers?
It was astonishing to see a sign saying "state property no trespassing" at rest areas and closed scales blocked by construction barrels In NJ.

In Kentucky they have scale houses with ample parking, washrooms and even an area to eat with a microwave for anyone that dares to park there. I have parked there. Many drivers are too intimidated to park there.

Just opening up all the scale houses and closed rest areas would go a long way to improve parking for trucks.

Ontario just recently put up electric signs saying the scale were open for parking for drivers to rest.
yet again drivers are fearful to park there.

There is in actuality NO Government property, just like there is n government money. It all belongs to the people and it needs to be utilized better!

It certainly will!
pay for parking will fix the problem quickly But the bill for parking needs to be covered by the trucking companies and not the drivers.

If the only option was pay to ark you would see hundreds of truck parking lots open up over night. Land owners and investors would create truck parking and would probably have some half-assed decent facilities too!
