I have a 2020 this week on its maiden voyage and it’s now incorporated into the truck itself and shows up on the info center in the middle of the gauge cluster. It’s far less annoying now though.

I dunno if it's a Schneider programming thing or what but we get a critical event for like 4 seconds of too close, which doesn't let you ease off gentle when someone decides to just hang there or keep slowing down more. The natural slowdown isn't fast enough.

Yeah these nannies make me more paranoid than I have to be. I'm not afraid of accidents, I'm afraid of not being able to go straight home after work. I hate going in that office to yell at them.

This is true, but the fact is that those will always be out here ,and the ELD is going to push these people to make mistakes, or another unintended consequence, overlook other people's mistakes more often.

Even with good planning, things happen, and we all were accustomed to getting the job done. Something unexpected happens, and we find ourselves in a rush against the clock, because the clock now has a hard stop.

That clock had just the same "hard stop" before the ELD mandate as after. Nothing has changed about the 8/11/14-hour clocks. Nothing. Except a drivers ability to paper over his own mistakes and inefficient use of the hours available to him.

That's the thing though. In the grand scheme of things, fudging 15 minutes to get somewhere isn't exactly the most horrific horror of horrors from a safety standpoint. But with ELD you can't even do that.

Besides, paper is in 15 minute increments. So if your 14 ended officially at 2300, ending at 2305 and putting the line at 2300 isn't a violation. ELD says if your 14 officially ends at 23:00, your ass needs to be parked at 22:59:59 and hopefully your computer don't lag so you can get that button pushed in time.

I also got a 30 minute/8 hour driving violation at US Xpress because an Amazon warehouse was so huge I had to drive around the entire building to get to the only portable bathroom they had. I wouldn't have made it on foot.

I can't exactly trip plan my bowels based on the size of a warehouse parking lot and bathroom location.

It was either log violation or shit my pants.

From a owner op stand point I agree. Fortunately the place I work for leave the decisions of truck operation to the driver. But,

No matter how you change the HOS companies who manage their drivers operation will continue to force them to use their full clock regardless of how they break it up, fatigued or not. Because that non-altered ticking clock in the cab says “xyz”. That is actually the problem that has always plagued the industry. Dispatch says get it there or else.

ELD was put in place to cut down on crashes, that's what the government said, but we all KNOW everytime they OPEN their MOUTH THEY LIE. So nothing new here. The new rules they are coming up with now is no better. They are just moving numbers around with in the 14 hour rules. Their on size don't fit ALL. But to hear them say they knows whats best for drivers, drivers are too dumb to know when they need sleep. I say the CRASH BLOOD IS ON THE GOVERNMENTS HANDS

a) drivers with poor trip planning.
b) drivers that have **** poor dispatchers.

(d) Drivers with multiple drops who are constrained by customer business hours, especially when customers are open 10 am to 6 pm, 30 minutes off duty has to be shoehorned in somewhere and the difference between going home or spending the night in the customer's parking lot is delivering that last stop before they close.

So there are times throughout the day that you would maybe stretch your legs a little before taking off, but the electronic leash dictates that you get moving now. That little push is what leads to the increase in accidents.

The 30 minute break BS needs to go. I'm in and out of the truck at least 10 times a day. That 30 minutes crap breaks my clock a lot.

Just change your eld to be oversized exempt or oil field exempt and no more 30 minute break required. just kidding. All seriousness though I’m with you I stop when I need to through out the day. I didn’t have to take a 30+ minute break as a mechanic why am I required to do so as a driver? Each job is saftey sensitive.

I believe in the new proposed guidelines the 30 is going to be allowed to be split. I would like 3 10's or 2 15's if we are going to be forced anything.
