Truck driver Rogel Aguilera-Mederos granted clemency by Colorado governor after 110-year prison sentence​


Polis says he is commuting Aguilera-Mederos’ sentence to 10 years and granting him parole eligibility on Dec. 30, 2026.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis has granted clemency to 26-year-old Rogel Aguilera-Mederos who was given a 110-year prison sentence for an explosive crash that killed four people in suburban Denver.

The move by Polis comes as a state district attorney asked a judge on Monday to consider reducing Aguilera-Mederos’ sentence following public outcry from around the country and among truckers, with around 5 million people signing an online petition seeking clemency for him.

The DNC is talking about running the Colorado governor for President in 2024.

Apparently he's like one of the last non lunatic democrats. He actually built a successful business or something.

Anyway this goes a long way toward grabbing that Hispanic vote.

this means, with time served, and less than a third to actually serve, that moron will be out in under 1.5 years.

then off to Cuba, to change his name, come back to the states, get a new SS number and CDL, and go out and kill more people....

Polis is well to the far left. I guess that speaks to how whacked the Dems are right now, if they see him as centrist.
 
Could be the Governor simply listened to the fact that more than 5 million signed a petition for this, not to mention the judge asking for this as well. Not everything has to be about building a voter base.

As for the revised sentence, what is everyone's thought on it?

I would have been happy to see him let free with no prison time. I get that this was a tragic accident and he made huge mistakes that took people's lives, but the fact remains that it was a mistake. It wasn't a result of drugs or alcohol, it was merely a mistake.

I think we should keep the prison cells open for those that intentionally harm/kill others, or intentionally put themselves under the influence of substances that lead to them hurting/killing others.

If we made a point of putting every truck driver in prison who screws up on the road and crashes into people due to the driver's mistakes, we would have prisons literally full of truck drivers.

Driver rolled his truck over in the Gorge yesterday, obviously driving too fast as so many do through there. Will he go to jail? Of course not. It was an accident. Was he a fault for driving like an idiot? Of course.

however, the Denver driver, cold bloodedly murdered people.

Yes he fucked up and people died because he made a lot of mistakes.
People died and that was unintentional, so yes, for that he must pay!
10 years is just!

I would say that is an ignorant statement, but it's not, because you know it wasn't murder. You know what murder is, and this isn't it.

Honestly, it just goes to the borderline of foolishness to keep making that same statement, and everyone seems to see it other than you.

Take some time and go through accidents over the past few years. A dump truck driver just plowed through an intersection a few days ago, killing someone. No arrests, nobody even making a fuss about it. It happens alot.

When people end up arrested, it's because there was a DUI involved, or the driver was doing something foolish like driving distracted by a phone or watching tv on a table/laptop, or some other stupid mess like that. Once again, not the case here.

I'd be more pissed off at the fact that the company owner reopened under a new name just days later and already had a fleet of crap trucks being operated on the road today.

If anybody was a criminal, it was the guy running that company, and it is showing at this point.

I'm definitely not upset with the sentence. I would have favored less, but fine with the result. What I won't be fine with is accidents in the future where a driver makes foolish mistakes and walks away free.

We need consistency.
 
That kid was blowing by stopped traffic at full speed on the shoulder. When he realized there was a another truck stopped on the shoulder in front of him, he had three choices: traffic, truck, or ditch. He chose the one with the lowest risk to himself, and the highest risk to others.

That is no accident, that was reckless disregard for the well being of others. This wasn't a mistake, or someone distracted. This was "FUCK Y'ALL, I GOT MINE!" 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Or, he was in a panic and just screwed it all up from the word go.

You are approaching it from the viewpoint of a seasoned truck driver that makes a calculated decision based on the potential outcomes.

This kid likely had no comprehension of brake fade and why his truck wasn't going to stop.

Grown Ups today are not the Grown Ups of 30 years ago. Learning to drive a truck today is not what it was 30 years ago. The truck a driver learned on 30 years ago demanded someone with a bit of common sense to figure simple things out. Today's trucks don't.

Cut my teeth on that state. Can't say I remember any serious grades anywhere, and you can spend years running the triangle of Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and never see more than an ant hill.

There's no doubt that there's much validity in what you say. It does little to cool the anger towards the emotional defenses I read for this guy, as if he was being persecuted for an accident that could happen to any of us.

If he had just plowed into the back stopped traffic it would be different. But that's not what happened. He made a choice that any rational human being would know was going to kill innocent people. And he chose it anyway.
