I'm in the process of getting a 2009 Pete 389 with a CAT C15 Acert paired with a RTOC-16909A transmission.
The plan is to convert the trans to a 13 speed, and uprate the motor. Right now, it's set at its lowest setting, 435/1550. I'm looking to set it to 500-550/1850.
Problem, transmission is only rated for 1650 torque, and I'm reading that CAT dealers will not uprate past the transmissions rating, period. According to CATs literature, this means I would be stuck with a max of 475/1650.
So my questions are:
Is the 40/100 gain going to even be noticeable?
Is it possible to uprate to 550/1850 at a CAT dealer?
Would installing a oil-water cooler (the "only" difference in the RTOC-18909A) allow me to then uprate, and where could I find the cooler?
Would it be advised to say screw it, and pay the "Diesel Doctor" to do what cat won't, and uprate to the file I want?
