The Island of Misfit Toys

@Snowblind I know I shouldn't say it, but gonna do it anyway and jinx myself (again). That hazmat load I had was by far the worst load I've ever pulled, from start to finish. That beer distributor around the corner we delivered to at Millis was a lovely stroll through the park compared to this receiver. It was absolutely unreal. I couldn't get docked, tried probably ten times before the yard dog there told me to just drop it on the street so he could hook it and get it docked. Normally I'd be ashamed and embarrassed about that. Not today. F that dock, man. Came way too close for comfort to street poles, cars, and an awning on the building across the street. The spotter had a day cab single axle and it didn't look real easy for him either, so zero shame here. Because of how this load started, two things are permanently changing for me. Never touching another hazmat load for the rest of my life. That part I don't actually have much of a choice in since the new job doesn't allow us to haul those loads. Friggin fine by me. The other change is no more Cleveland loads. I've been to tight spots in Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, etc and those aren't nearly as bad as Cleveland. It's a fantastic city to visit, but screw that place in a truck. Been burned too many times, never again. Nine days and counting....

By the way, just got some possible good news. After the BS day I just had, I could use it. My bank just fired a guy that claimed to have contacted me on an account that just got closed due to undocumented activities. Hope he dies slowly in a fire. Looks like they're gonna revive it. I'd like to go punch him in the balls. However, I met him and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have any. Goddam metrosexuals. Holler at me when you can tear apart a carburetor, then you can mess with my money. What the hell happened to the youth?
Metros drive me nuts. I have met men who are intimate with men who are more manly than any of them dweebs.

Just heard the saddest dam thing I've ever heard in my life. @MIT I know you found me on the other site. I know you have plans for your future. I talked to you when I actually mattered over there. I am telling you now that I'd never pull you in a bad direction. I reccomend talking to old dogs because I've learned more from them than anyone in this business. But be tempered in your intake Just talked to an old dog from Landstar that has clearly chugged the Koolaid. Worst advice I've ever heard. Sad thing is he actually believes it. Blows my mind. Nobody can tell you how to write your future. Trust your gut, always. F anyone who tells you otherwise. I started pumping out posts over there to help people. Now that I'm banned from my old thread, I'm still carrying that flag. Millis attracted good people (mostly). So now I'm trying to get the folks who were worth a crapp to the next level. I'm not an expert nor am I important. But I'm sure as hell better than where I came from. You are too.

@Snowblind. Dig this... my birthday recently came and went so I had to get tags for my car. I'm at the point no where I'm gonna have to pull the plates off next year and scrape off the stickers. This is the longest I've ever owned a car in my life, and the sticker i just put on my plate is the 5th one. I'm pretty sure at some point it would be smart to just scrape them off and start a new pile. Here's what really blows my mind. I've driven about 400k in a truck since i started. In the same amount of time I've put about 11k on my car. That's just nuts.

Yup, during the time I was OTR the Suburban only moved to drive from Richfield to Chicago once every 6 weeks then back, unless Della came thru and took it to stock up on groceries.

I need to call her at some point, it's been forever. Probably the coolest woman I've ever me in this industry. You had a crazy luck of the draw there. I can't imagine how much better your training experience was vs mine with fattard.

I met another Della out on the road. The name stuck with me because it isn't real common. Very sweet woman. Even if she didn't share such an uncommon name with the lady we know, I would have remembered it anyhow because it's habit for me to remember bartenders out here. Especially when they're hotties. There's a truck stop in Oakwood IL on I74. Exit 206. Little mom and pop place that would be right up your alley. Right across the street from the Pilot. Don't waste your time trying to park at the Pilot, go to the spot across the street. Crappy lot, but whatever. The bar next door has great food and really nice people. If you meet Della you won't forget her. She's a smoke show if you like older women like I do. Just don't tell Mrs Junkie I said that lol.

Well @Snowblind I feel like I'm kinda talking into the wind here. The old timer isn't responding to texts or calls, big shocker there. Nobody else from the other side of the street is showing up either. But, I'll post this anyhow. Going for a drug test tomorrow. I hope I remember the answers, I haven't studied in a while. Grabbing a load on Friday that goes to Georgia on Sunday. Then orientation on Monday. Then I'll never see that godforsaken state again for the rest of my life. Got a crazy story for you about this ridiculous process, it blew my mind.

I just checked my contacts lists history. I talked to him on the 18th, he was down the way you're heading (Georgia) re-cooping by his sister's place. Seemed antsie (sp?) but in really good spirits. Still was needing a cane to walk with and said looked like at least 3 more weeks at time to be back to a place of being able to function normally again. Sorry, I should have said something but I had the feeling you had spoke with him not long before I did.

I questioned why he would need to function normally since he never did before but I don't remember if he ever really gave an answer to it or not.

I haven't looked at the Millis thread in a long time so no clue who/what is going on over there but nobody has contacted me about anything.

Don't worry about the drug test, they're like riding a bicycle.

I'll give you a call later if I survive the dentist this morning.

Happy Halloween. It's a very sad day. As much as I love this holiday, I know we're about to get beaten to death with Cristmas music soon absolutely everywhere we go. Yay. I love Christmas time but I could go without every hearing another friggin Christmas song for the rest of my life.

God damn man, you KNOW since you said that now I have to start posting Christmas music.

Just for Tim

But I do have to say that in a way I agree with you. I am not a fan of Christmas, and I think part of the reason is that Christmas shit was out on the shelves here 3 plus weeks ago. I'm sick of seeing it already and it's only fucking Halloween.

Every year comes out earlier and earlier.

2 laws needs to be enacted.

1) No Christmas shit out before Black Friday
2) No Swift trucks allowed on same road I am on while I am still on said road.

Well, at least you posted TSO. I can deal with them. Any band that has it's roots in metal is ok in my book. You do know who that band used to be, right? If not, let me introduce you to one of my favorite bands as a kid. This was TSO before they hit the lottery and became gazillionaires.

Couldn't possibly agree with you more. 'Cept I'll trade your Swift suggestion for CR England. Perhaps it's personal bias but I feel like their drivers are worse than the rep Swift has.

Sorry to requote a previously requoted post, but as I was thinking about him I remembered something he told me in a conversation about a month ago. Whatever hit him was a result of COPD. That's the fun new name for emphysema. Every generation feels like they need to rebrand everything that already exists. Probably for the benefit of drug peddlers. He was already kinda frail due to weight and a back injury. The thing that mystifies me about the human body is how different one is from the other. I know this to be a fact (because it's been published a million times) some people are just more predisposed to illness than others. If anyone I know should be dead it's me. Been smoking for 30 years, have mild COPD that will pretty much disappear if I just quit. Survived being hit by two drunk drivers, one of which hospitalized my passenger. While I was a roofer for 10 years, had two really nasty falls. One of which was two and a half stories up. Here I am still making the world angry. I said it a long time ago and I'll say it again. If god exists, he hates me to much to kill me. I'm betting that when I die, it's gonna be a crazy story. I think the devil is keeping me alive because he doesn't want the competition.

Don't be silly... the devil is keeping you alive because he doesn't want to share his beer.
