The Island of Misfit Toys

Life is a weird set of hurdles. Yo @SueAnn I have thought about you a lot lately. I feel like your recent post was probably the most introspective post I've read in a while. I'm gonna have to do your part 3 again. It sucks because it's getting really real now. Like really real. Like family. But f*ck it I guess. Cut off the cancer. It's never been this real before. Hope you cancer cutting is going well. If you stick to your resolution, I will too. I don't know you, and you don't know me. But I feel like I might have a friend in this struggle. Here's to both of us, and life in general. Cheers mama

How did I end up in the misfit toys?? :rolllaugh:

Good luck with cutting off the cancer. It's easy for some, but more difficult for some others. :throwfit:

I had a bad accident with the truck in Wyoming and totalled it at the end of November and won't be going back to work for another month or so.

Since then I've been taking names and kicking ***. :paddle: I've found I'm on my own if I need anything and that really p***** me off.

I don't have any family so I don't have to deal with that but the "friends" thing has been quite an eye opener.

You have a friend in me if you need to vent. My best advise....get a DOG! Unconditional love!

She's been a joy and a pain to have with me.

Whatever you do, get a spare key hid on the truck you can get at when they lock you out.

Also, don't leave the vehicle running as little paws will operate windows. So plan on auxiliary cooling for the summer months. It will scare the hell out of you when you walk up and see no dog and an open window.

Having a dog on the truck is as much about training you as the dog.

My lab started jumping out of the truck and running off.

It's been a slow process, but she's starting to jump down and immediately go to the heel position. Especially for her safety.

Being mindful of the shit in truckstops, rest areas etc people dump.

Having something to occupy them in the truck. Chew toys etc.

And finding times and places to allow them to RUN the zoomies out as my kids call them.

Get a small light for their collar. I found them at Petco/pet smart

Makes it much safer for the dog as the light let's others see the dog much easier at night.

Brown dogs easily disappear in the dark otherwise.

So much great advice. She has grown into such a beautiful girl and by the sound of it, you've worked with her a lot. She's such a lucky little girl.

I've been fortunate so far with Diezel. He lays in his very comfy bed on the floor while the truck is moving and sleeps. As soon as I pull the brake, it's play time. He's a pretty chill little guy. As long as he's with me, he's happy.

He hasn't locked me out of the truck. I have, but he hasn't and he hasn't played with the windows, not to say that he won't.
I've had him chew on my stuff but never has chewed anything related to the truck. I always have a chew toy for him and he loves his stuffed toys too.

I remember when I first got him, you mentioned to get a light for his collar and I did. That's been so helpful at night, thank you.

I think we both lucked out with our little bundles of love!
🐶💕

Man... Anyone get the number of that truck? The one that ran my day over and left it for dead? I needed to leave home by 3am in order to get to my truck and then my pickup on time. Mother Nature wasn't havin' that plan at all. 60 mph winds that damn near pushed my car off the road twice on the way to my TA. I turned around and went back home. Tried like hell to get anyone from my company or the broker's office to answer a text or a call. No dice until 8am, a full hour after my pickup appointment. By the time people started communicating with me and forming a plan it was almost 10. Christ. I wanted so badly to just bail on this load knowing full well that if I moved forward it was just gonna be a big pile of suck. And it most definitely was. This was supposed to be a simple run. Pickup at 7, delivery by 2PM same day. Easy peasy. Shipper punished me for being responsible and saving lives (not just mine) by staying parked. Held me in the damn dock for almost five hours. For the last three, there was no other truck but me. A-holes. And now I'm holding this load til 8am. By the time I arrived at the shipper, I should have been empty at the receiver. F this day. With a chainsaw. @Snowblind I had one of the most jacked-up docks ever today. I deserve a medal for that one. It's amazing to me how sheltered we both were at Millis. For the most part, we had it pretty easy dock-wise. Except for some of those John Deere loads we had and a very few others, life there was a sheltered one. I feel like I'm friggin bending the laws of physics these days, putting my truck in places it can't possibly go or fit. And frankly shouldn't have to. I want a giant "S" for my shirts. This one today woulda pissed you off I guarantee it. All's well that ends well, I suppose. As long as it ends in a cold beer 🤣 Cheers y'all. Be safe out there.

Well, at least the beer looks good!!

Junkie's law #372. Never break from a routine that works. I jumped on a load yesterday that backfired spectacularly. Good broker, good terms, and a pile of unintentional miscommunication. And it came from the customer. I never pack this many miles in one run, EVER. There's no money in long runs. But the broker is awesome and the price was decent enough to make me bite. The terms changed after I accepted the load and it wasn't the broker's fault. Because he's a really good dude I wasn't gonna leave him hangin'. He sits on a lot of good freight, he treats me well, and I'll not bite the hand that feeds. It went as smooth as it could, no complaints there. But I should be $200 richer today than I am. Never vary from the plan, man. It'll bite ya. The silver lining is that I'm sitting in one of my old favorite places, haven't been here in quite some time. Gotta love a place that has "sammiches" on the menu 🤣

Tomorrow is gonna be a great day, back in a target rich environment, can't wait. As I'm preparing to order and eat my food, I want to make sure that I'm keeping my word to a new and unexpected friend I met here. Thanks so much for the 300 mile conversation, that meant a lot. As promised, I'm having a couple drinks for you in your absence. Cheers, wish I could do these in person with you :) You're pretty awesome, and you really do need to start that blog. Your experiences are absolutely fascinating. Hope you're enjoying your evening :)

Happiness is....

Dragging your fat ass out of bed at 11:30 at night to make a 6am delivery. Arriving at 5:33am and being told you can only deliver between 5pm and 5am, and no, there isn't anyplace here you can park while you call dispatch, you have to go.
