The Island of Misfit Toys

I've been in PA twice when 80 got shut down, that won't be happening to me again. Pa is a no-fly zone for me from mid-October till spring.
Last winter I shut down a few hours before the first snowflake fell as PA got into travel ban-happy mode. Thank God I don't have to deal with that nonsense again. The furthest east I go to is Columbus Ohio.

Good plan. The times I got stuck there I was under company dispatch, and therefore had no choice where I went. Different story now.

Last year I was under company dispatch and didn't care. If I wasn't going to make it I parked it early to make sure I was going to have a spot, and then let my dispatcher and broker know about the incoming ban and my 20. I didn't have a problem with either, because they knew I wasnt going to risk it for a measily $1,200 paying load.

Umm... lack of preparation and plowing come to mind.
Upstate New York is worse. What I hate about PA roads in the winter is you’ll be driving down a highway. And it comes around a curve and 10-12% grade without warning. Start the climb and hope you don’t spin out. PA 253 is a prime example of this. Happens to you 2x south bound.

It’s been closed to CMVs for a few years.
Not that that means you can’t run it, look at Smugglers Notch and how many trucks try and run that road :biglaugh:

GPS Reliance Gets Trucks Stuck, and Vermont is Fed Up
Right on. You know how it is after awhile, routes all look the same. I'm probably mistaken. Tell you what I DID do in PA once by accident was take 42 from 68 to get to 219. Holy crap, that was awful. Didn't know it until it was too late, but CMVs aren't allowed there either. Thank God no cops were around at 2 or 3 in the morning when I ran it. What a miserable "shortcut". I was doing 10 mph a couple times trying to climb those grades. Yikes.

Been caught in a blizzard twice in New York. Not for nuthin', but I was extremely impressed with their road crews.

Get off and run some of the US highways. That gets down right spooky at times. Same with PA.
Yup, I hear ya. There's some bad ones out there. Like taking 30 and going west out of Pittsburgh. Or taking 43 south south of Canton OH. That's a hot mess. I think it's funny looking back at roads I ran with my trainer when I first started. Roads that he told me were dangerous and to be feared. 460 in WV and 220 in VA. Pfffftttt ninja please. Those roads are child's play compared to 43 in heavy traffic. And I doubt he's ever touched it. It's crazy what we get used to out here.
