The health care system...

I will use a little 1st Amd, though and ask "All in favor of outlawing health ins.?"
Nay...

If the free market wants to sell it, if people and corporations want to buy it, and it hurts no one, why should it be outlawed? Everyone can't afford an Escalade, should they be outlawed? How about vacation homes, tropical cruises, and extravagant dining? Those are beyond the means of many. Outlaw?

Back to your drawing board...

Well enough from the Nay crowd, you represent your group well.
So your only suggestion is to die?
Nice try, now how about something with a little more thought behind it, or is that it?

Depends on the goals that are trying to be achieved. State the goals.

My health-care isn't broken. I don't want to change it. If I get sick, or, injured enough that it isn't economically feasible to return to good health, dig a hole.

Well congratulations. You're one in a million+. Time to buy a lotto ticket.
Got any friends or neighbors?
Go ahead, ask'em.
Could you find it in your heart to admit that most are having a problem?
Could you consider the costs that are killing businesses and our economy and that might just affect some of us?
Or is it just going to be no no no?

State the goals.

Don't just say, "fix health-care." Define your perception of fixed.

BTW, unless you are soliciting for a charity, my heart has nothing to do with it. It's about business. Compassion is a different subject.

I guess I answered the question "why outlaw it?"
Cuz it's killing us.

I thought Bull did a better job than I did in post #34
Affordable without interference between Dr. and patient. Also no middleman.
Not sure if I was soliciting for a charity that I would count on you, but thanks anyway. Touchy today?

Am coming across as "touchy"? Don't mean to, sorry.

What Bull described would work fine. It would probably slow the growth of medical technology, but, that could be a good thing.

Routine Doctor service could be paid for, out of pocket, no problem. Some day surgery might be affordable. Where there would be resistance is when dealing with catastrophic medical problems. Hardly anyone, except the Rothschild's, Kennedy's, and, Rockefeller's could handle that. If insurance isn't a player, the government is out of the loop, and you have to ask me for charity, I guess the results would be up to the patient and their Maker.

Maybe I touched your heart. Awww:hug:
Sounds ok even to a pinko liberal like me.:wtf::biglaugh:
Gotta be somethin better than the road we're on now.
And no surprise when it comes to catastrophic I'm pretty much the same way. Only difference is I told my wife not to spend $700 on cremation - we gotta burn barrel.

:biglaugh: Reminds me of that commercial where the undertaker tallys up the bill and hands it to the family. Perfect ending to that commercial would be to have the guy put a gas can on the desk and say "But then we have a cheaper solution..."

OK boys and girls, after 3 pages of democracy in action we have two alternative plans.

1) Everyone on Medicare resulting in socialized medicine. A bitter pill to swallow.(couldn't help myself)
2) End private health insurance resulting in much cheaper prices and a simple transaction between Dr. and patient. Oh and you might die but 2xR and I have made peace with our Maker.
Both would require some sort of ideological concessions to be made but somethin's gotta give sooner or later.
Thanks for all the help. Now comes the fun part.
Ballots anyone?
Personally I'm leaning towards #2

I like the idea of #2.....And in the mean time, if i die, I'm gonna haunt 2xr..lol....

. Socialized healthcare has good points and bad like everything else.
The good is know one is turned away, The bad you can wait for months to be treated.
we also have a big problem with drugs...medication...every week a new one pops up the wonder cure.....then a couple months later....class action law suites because it can or have killed you or someone you love....have you read some of the warnings on all this new crap.

Then you and your Dr. have to decide if it's worth the risk.
I've been given stuff after reading on it I refuse to take it...Thinking I'm sick enough don't need to add to it.........................

Reminds me of Jeff Foxworthy talking about the medicine having more serious side effects than what you are being treated for...Heck some say they cause heart failure or cancer...

My wife goes thru the same thing. That's why I've gone with her to the Dr. and expressed my opinion on the pharmaceutical and medical industries that they are nothing but drug dealers. And please no arguments cuz I know a drug dealer when I see one. They love that speech.
On to the proposed solutions...
I personally don't have a problem with trying universal health care - that's one of the main reasons I voted the way I did in November. Remember if it doesn't work we try something else. But out of deference to my ardently anti-communist (although scared to death) friends here, I am willing to try the total anti-gov't plan (cuz I ain't skeered of nuthin) as long as they can defer to the requirement of outlawing private health ins.
Both "radical" ideas, both require changes to the present system because for most of us it is only getting worse, not better.
What's wrong with trying it for 5 or 10 years and see if it works?
If it does, great we fixed the problem simply and quickly. (the problem being sky-rocketing costs and poor or little coverage)
And if for some reason it doesn't work - then there really won't be any argument left to try some good old-fashioned socialized healthcare. Well, I don't count being scared as a logical reason.
Now, if nothing works after 10-20 years of trying, we can just pass out revolvers with one bullet and call it a day.
I like this. Concentrate on the problem, find a solution and get on with it.
Would it be nice if gov't worked like that?
That is what they are hired to do, after all.
