Steering wheel holders...truck drivers

Oh yeah, I will call the federal marshals and @blackw900

We'll see who wins.
That gave me a good laugh, thanks.

I know we have bad days. I have them myself. What I'm saying is "Don't take your bad day out on me and I won't make your bad day worse".

It wouldn't even take a couple of seconds to let me and others pass by, and 99% of the drivers at the DC you don't even have to ask. That can be another difference between a steering wheel holder and a driver. You shouldn't have to ask another driver to move. If you notice that you're holding up trucks, let them pass. I do this myself. I will wait for other trucks to pass me before I back into a bay, even though I can hit most bays without a single pull-up.

If I am backing in somewhere that is taking multiple pullups, then it is likely going to take you and most others multiple pull ups.

You will get your chance when I am done, provided there is enough room to drive by once I am in the dock.

Been in many places where you are not going to pull out of your dock until the truck beside you leaves. Dont see many of these places anymore, but do come across them from time to time. Probably no mail trucks or postal inspectors at those places anyway ;)

I don't have a problem letting trucks pass if I'm having one of those days.

But if you get on the radio and harass me about taking a few pull-ups, I will deliberately make your day more challenging.

All of us have schedules we need to keep. I don't give a crap what you're hauling. If it was that important, it would not have been shipped on a truck. It would have been flown and couriered.

Go on ahead and threaten me with Postal inspectors. It's just as funny as threatening diesel bears with the Marshalls.

Where did I say I would get on the radio and harass you? I said I would ask you to move, and that's it.

This is our DC:

It's a indoor garage. Does it take us multiple pull-ups to hit a bay? No, it doesn't because were driving single axle daycabs with 45' trailers. Most of us can hit these bays without a single pull-up.

FYI, road tractors with 53' trailers will never back into a dock here, and you aren't allowed to stay connected to the trailer, simply because there isn't room. When you come here, you have to drop your trailer in the apron next to the pillars and have a yard jockey back your trailer in.

You said you'd call out the "Inspektors" to come take us away to a top secret prison operated by the postmaster general and waterboard us until we give up the names of everybody else who was involved in the conspiracy to annoy a mail truck driver. ;)

I would only make that call if you gave me an attitude, after simply asking you to let me pass. Now that you've seen a picture of our DC, I hope you see the reason why I would ask you to move.

And you wouldn't be taken to prison. You'd be escorted off the property.

You don't want to deal with those guys, ever. Even on their good day.
And you wouldn't be taken to prison. You'd be escorted off the property.
I'm supposed to be afraid of being escorted off the property? :rolllaugh:

I've been to more than a few places where I'd have ENJOYED being escorted off the property and banned. In fact I wish they'd permanently ban me from the Port of Gloucester in NJ so I wouldn't have to go there any more. I even refused to get a TWIC card just because of some fake promises made by the government that I wouldn't be allowed in without one, ... which turned out to be a LIE.

Seriously though, .... sometimes I get stuck with an awful RR Donnelley load that goes to multiple post offices. I hate those loads because they don't pay worth a crap, have multiple stops, and the shipper takes so long you might as well just plan a 10 hour break there. But as far as the drops go, I've never encountered a postal worker who wasn't polite & friendly & they've never taken very long to pull out their crap. (and yes it is CRAP I'm delivering there. It's all junk mail and stuff like "Soybean Digest" or "The Oprah Magazine". )

We were initially talking about truck stops and common customer docks. In your response, one would presume you're following that line of conversation:
As far as helping someone back into a spot, I won't do it for 3 reasons. First, I don't have time. I have a 10-20 minute window to get in and out of customers, and that's it. If you take more than 3 pull-ups to hit a spot, I'm going to ask you to move. Second, if you can't hit a spot within 3 pull-ups, I'm going to think you're an incompetent driver who needs more training. Third, a while ago a friend of mine got sued by a driver he was helping back, and that driver hit another truck.

We would logically conclude you were talking about truck stops and common customers here as well:
If you do that, all it will take is one phone call and you'd have postal inspectors all over you like white on rice. I'm typically a nice person, but if you give me an attitude, I will return the favor.

And here, you are specifying your DC.

Can we return to the regularly scheduled hijack now?

It would be a common customer dock if you haul mail .

I don't go to truck stops. I haven't visited one in almost 3 years, thank God.

I've hauled junk mail from the central USPS terminal in Memphis.

I've also hauled junk mail from Martinsburg, WV. (Compass?? ...whatever..)

Not much trouble backing in either place.

Your DC...If they didn't have a yard jockey to back a 53 in, I'd tell them to unload it from the street. That garage is not worth my effort to get stuck.

I have made receivers unload me from the street before.

I've backed into tighter stuff than that plenty of times, with a 53 footer & a sleeper cab.

Not without cussing at my windshield though.

The bat caves in Kansas is the only place I can think of that's as tight as this DC.

And I've cursed at the windshield plenty of times.

There's a Sysco DC in Des Plaines, IL that used to be like that. It was effin' ridiculous, but they tore down the roof over the docking area. You still have the same amount of pull-up space though. It's not very bad, .... except for the dock they usually stick me in, which sticks out from the rest of the building so once you're backed in, there's barely even room for a truck to pass between your nose & the remains of the wall that used to be there.

I remember doing deliveries to a grocery chain DC (Sobeys) in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The place was built into a side-hill and the "delivery" area ran just the length of the building and was only 2 trailer lengths deep. You had to blind side back in from the street (backing uphill btw) and blind side into the docks. Real challenging in winter. Once in awhile we'd get a truck from "the States" who would take one look and start hollering for the "yard shunter". Except for one lady who looked awfully like Injun. She'd do it like she was doing it every day. :D

Hey Injun..... you have any older relatives who drove reefer into Canada??? ;)
