Screw Minnesota and their Beet Juice

I guess sitting through four weeks of Minnesota "snow fighter" training means nothing
Looks like they use more sand than salt.

.
How much salt and sand does MnDOT use in a typical winter?
The amounts vary considerably from year to year depending on the severity of the winter. The winter of 2012-13, a particularly severe winter, we used 304.6 thousand tons of salt and 44.3 thousand tons of sand, which compared to 2014-15, considered a more “average” winter we used 173.9 thousand tons of salt and 39.8 thousand tons of sand.

Because I state facts? That's all I've done.
No, you changed one statement into a different one and turned it into an argument. This was solely a post about pretreat specifically on the interstate. You want it to be about something else because as I have seen here and in other threads you like to argue. And that’s the sole reason you did it. However I found the magic button and will no longer be seeing your nonsense. I wish you the best.

Hmmm. This is the only thread I've been in other then channel 19 and I ain't argued with anyone there yet.

Approximately 10%. I didn't say they didn't use it.

not sure where your math was taught, but the last time I knew 173 was greater than 34.

in the Minnesota DOT road control plan, the only time sand is used is in extreme cold for traction control.

The reason for that is salt, whatever type they have, doesn't work under -15.

Where do you come up with the 10% number? Looks like on an average year it’s about 22%, you said they didn’t use it I was just pointing out that they do.

I see you edited your post after I quoted it, in my haste I didn’t read far enough, in 2012/2013 they used more sand.

Then I will correct myself for your benefit.

Sand is not a primary control for the Minnesota DOT or most government entities

Sand is an extreme measure for extreme cold. Beet juice is used as a pretreatment along with some chlorides

Their primary salt is sodium chloride for the majority of the state.

depending on the temperature, they may move to magnesium or potassium chloride.

The primary purpose of sand is traction control under -15 temperatures.

You can look that up on your Minnesota DOT Website too.

Pretreatments also are not about keeping the roads dry. it's to prevent snow and ice from adhering to the asphalt or road surface. nothing more.
