MALARTIC, Quebec, July 14 (UPI) -- Preparations are under way to move a town in northwestern Quebec more than a mile away to access one of Canada's largest deposits of gold with an open pit mine.
Pending government approval, the Osisko Mining Corp. plans to relocate and rebuild the town of Malartic and tear down what's left behind, the Globe and Mail reported Tuesday.
The task involves physically trucking some of the 200 houses, a church, daycare center and senior's home to the new location, the report said. Quebec town to be moved to access gold - UPI.com
