If you need the hearing aids in order to maintain employment they usually pay for them (at least in Indiana) and as long as you don't work in an environment where ear protection is required. Also, my neighbor's aids have a built-in component that reduces any idividual loud noises that go beyond the safe limit for that frequency. Can't remember what it is called, but I will ask him next time I see him. Technology in hearing aids have come a long way.

Actually, I spoke with VR today. Here in TN, they are only helping those who are currently on disability, and those who are probably eligible but have not applied. They are hoping by next year new options will open up to help others who have less severe hearing loss. Even then, there will be a waiting list.

Okay, I see that they are somewhat more strict in Tennessee. I think the economy has something to do with it as well. Vocational Rehabilitation used to be more lenient with their services here until they had some of their funding cut. I believe it will eventually swing back the other way though.
