property taxes

jammer
just got my assessment from the assessors office according to them the value of our home went up $50,000 dollars 2 years ago they added $30,000 I don't have the actual tax bill yet but you can bet it will be outragous!!!
Ohio has the 8th highest property tax rate in the nation and the joke of a homestead reduction was $308.00 last year, I would gladly give that up if I could shove it up the governors ass one dollar at a time our politicians did pass 4 half assed bills that would have done little to reduce the taxes but the gov. wouldn't even let that thru and veto them, the legislature tried to override his vetos but only managed to override one!!!
Now as most of you know I was pretty active in local politics rarely had anything to do with statewide politics and it has been 4 or 5 years since I have been active due to major pain but this calls for drastic action so I am coming out of retirement loading up on pain pills and going to work as much as I can gathering signatures on petitions to completely do away with property taxes it is a group called CitizensForPropertyTaxReform.ORG I took some to my grandsons karate class there was 16 adults there and I got all of them to sign and then they had their spouses sign 20 in all and I should have brought more!!!
anyone from Ohio on here I ask that you look into this it is so important for you and your families and we would lead the nation in poperty tax reform, don't just be a signer but sign up to gather signatures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my property tax bill actually went down a bit....home owners here (at least in MY city) get a tax exemption if we are seniors, and living in our homes..it was once called the "homestead exemption act", but they changed the name, i cannot recall the new name.

however, i am thinking my new tax bill is in error.....

if it is, they will send a revised bill ASAP, or tack on the difference next year. i ain't gonna call them, if i am wrong, why open up a can of worms.?

Lol definitely don't ever dispute your tax bill.

They might be like oh yeah thanks it's actually too LOW. 😂

Mine was $1100 last year. I'll get the new estimate sometime in August with the bill in November. We get a $25k exemption for 'homestead', as long as you have that as your primary residence and another $25k for being 65 or older. In Ft. Lauderdale, (a blue city) the taxes on a house 1200 sq ft smaller than what I have now were $2800.

Now, our governor has come up with the hairbrained idea that if you own the home outright with liens or mortgage, they want to totally eliminate the property taxes. I can just see the fallout for that one. The county doesn't do squat for our area now. If you take away even 10% of that income, you may not even get to see a fire truck or sheriff's car in the area. I wouldn't mind paying a little more, but I want some services for it.

How about if you start levying taxes on churches? Most have acres of property. The entire building and land is all tax free. The leaders all drive high end luxury cars and probably don't even pay an income tax. It's the sheeple that follow these clowns is what amazes me. They just give them money like it's nothing and they can't even feed themselves.

Scientology headquarters is in Florida.

That's not a religion. It's a criminal organization established in the 20th century for the purpose of tax evasion and making themselves rich.

If I ever meet Tom Cruise I'm gonna rip on scientology just to see if I can get him to go on a rant 😅

@gearjammer they are going to be coming for you. You're a shit disturber and they don't want you poisoning the minds of the weaklings.
well you have to stand for something and this is as good a hill to die on as any
besides this practically sells itself I have yet to have anyone that wasn't eager to sign it and most want some blanks to pass around to their friends and neighbors. the only ones that even question it is renters and as soon as I remind them that their landlords will just raise their rent and probably find it as a good time to add even more just because they can I hear where do I sign, not one person said they wouldn't sign!!!
and oh this is bipartisan democrats and Republican all flocking to sign it a refreshing change

It's absolutely astonishing that renters don't think they are paying land tax because it is baked into their rent. They just don't see the tax portion.
Do they really think that the landlord is paying that on their own? There are no free rides in this world.

had the first person refuse to sign the petition, two in fact found out the worked for the governor office and were afraid it would effect their jobs, they did tell me the governors office is well aware of what is going on they are trying to figure out how to stop it, good luck with that one!!!
they also said a lot of government workers are rooting for this but have to keep their distance

That sucks that ANY employer is allowed to scrutinize an employee because of the way they think and vote. It is your right as a citizen to voice your opinion. I know it can very hard to give up a government job. The benefits are just too much when compared to the employer marketplace.

This sucks. why we bought a house in another country sick of the politics bullshit and there's only a one time property tax of 7.5% after that you own it no renting land from the govt!!!

Government workers are a special breed. They will prop up a bad government to save their jobs.

Unrelated but related to the topic, here we had an election where the Liberals won partly because the government workers that are 1/4 of the workforce thought if the Conservatives won, they would slash their government jobs.
The Liberals won and plot twist, they slashed their jobs.

Yes, it's like 1/4 and you still can't get a government worker to pick up the phone at a government office.

some of you guys are paying property taxes that are only 1/4 of my yearly tax bill...lets start for my house alone, nearly $8,000 for 1 years worth

but here in my city, we get the "homestead act", which means i am the home owner and living in my home, so we pay nearly half of that $8,000.....

they go by the house value to the current market value.......many homes here, in my city alone, have values of over $3 million dollars...that's the good neighborhoods....

i wish my total yearly taxes were on $1,000.............just ain't happening here in Demonically controlled New England

same as the water bill, sewer bill, and gas/electric..renters pay for everything.....that's why people buy rental properties....to make profits.
