Proper torque on pinion nut???

We recently put new u-joints in our rear drive shaft of our 1993 Peterbilt 379 with a 15 spd tranny. We put a brand new yoke on the rear end today but wasn't sure about how much torque to tighten the pinion nut? Anyone know??? Thanks in advance.

Any shop doing the work is going to use a new locknut and hammer it down with a 3/4 impact. But the torque is based on the nut size. If is a 2 1/4” - 2 1/2” nut then yeah it’s around 650 ft-lb. To get more accurate to torque some places use a tool called a raptor. It’s a air/hydronic deal that braces itself against the nut with and arm and then turns the nut. But 90% 3/4 impact hammer it and go.

Nope just bearings and shims.

I should also mention that the play adjustments are made by the bolt on retainer the pinion seal goes into. The nut just holds the yoke solid.
