I would like to point out that not ALL broker's are scumbags. There are those of us out there that are decent people trying to earn an honest living. Our agency currently has seven people operating with us, many with years of experience working for truck lines prior to going out on their own. We do need to make money to pay our overhead, bills, and provide for our families, just like you. We're not however all out to rip you off. I'll blatantly ask you what you need per mile and if I can squeeze it, it's yours. I'd rather get my load moved and know it's being hauled by a reputable driver than have someone who speaks no english take it just to make a huge profit and wind up losing a customer because they failed to come thru or worse, wrecked and injured someone. In the end, if I get it moved and done so safely and on time, I tend to get repeat business, and that keeps us both employed.
Also, being with Landstar, they take a pretty good chunk of what we make profit wise if we broker a load out, so we have to make enough to cover that and still meet our expenses. Overall, there are many idiots out there that give us a bad name, but not all of us are bad. I encourage you to find the right ones and promote them to others just as I'll help you weed out the bad ones. Just food for thought.
