Pilot Flying J wants input on parking directly from drivers

You know what really pisses me off? Pull into a truck stop and 2/3rds of the trucks parked there have a company terminal nearby.

Larger companies need to mandate having their trucks park at company terminals when theyre close by.
If you were a mega driver, you wouldn't want to park at one of their shitholes either...

Theyre honestly not much better than most truck stops/travel centers.
You'd be surprised how poorly some of these outfits treat their drivers. My carrier bought a property from a mega and were going to completely redevelop it. It was such a piss poor total shithole, I decided not to go near the place until they torch the mega shithole building. It's that bad.

The crappiest PEElot is better by far than how this mega treated their people.

Yeah, I was leased to a mega. Schneider. I parked at their terminals when I had no other option.

Company drivers forced to wear a vest and steel toe boots when walking on the property, and when I left they were pushing to force it on owner operators.

Or let a little ice hit the ground and they lock down the exit gate and you are going nowhere til they decide it is safe.

I avoid our local terminal like the plague.

It's not BAD, I just feel so out of place there. It's like a cult and I'm the only one who knows the Kool Aid is poisoned.

It also takes forever to get in and out.

Carlisle?

Carlisle?
Yeah.

No one there has made me feel unwelcome. It's just the overall vibe. Then again, I don't really feel at home at Schneider as a whole. Just riding it out for the money. Short of that, I'd be gone.

I've got the shirts and the hats and the coat and everything but I don't wear 'em. I prefer my regular t-shirts and flannel.

I don't like uniforms. Makes you a minion and one of many instead of an individual.

OTOH, my carrier's terminals in Springfield and Pittston are the Ritz compared to that other hole I mentioned. Inviting, uplifting, great amenities. No dress code, really good food.

And so many say bad things about them.

Most of the time im wearing steel toed boots and high-visibility clothing. Its become 2nd nature for me to wear that stuff at work. I dont see an issue with mandating such rules.

So, on your time off you wanna wear steel toed boots and high visibility clothing?

:coocoo:

Even driving? I laugh every time I see a clown wearing hi-viz while driving
Yes because i dont want to change clothes every time i stop. Call me a clown all you want. Wearing hi-vis clothing may not be a fashion statement, but it beats getting hit by some idiot at a truck stop or warehouse.

Didn't yo mama teach ya ta look both ways before walking in front of speedin' mega trucks?

Hi Viz won't do ya no good no how...

- A wheelhoder stupid enough to be goin' fast enough to squash ya ain't payin' attention.

- If he does look up, he'll assume the hi Viz stuff is a target. He was playin' GTA.

I'll toss on a vest only if I'm forced to. The places where a hard hat is mandatory but running shoes are ok make me laugh too. I never could figure out why so many guys put their vest on the passenger seat like a coat.
At the very least tell me you don't walk into truckstops with a hi-viz vest on?

I keep a couple homo viz shirts and coveralls in the truck for such an inconvenience but that crap comes off soon as I'm back in the truck.

I had a guy tell me to put pants on, instead of shorts. Thats not happening, in July, in the middle of a field. I was loaded and finishing chaining. He got all whiny about them going over site PPE in orientation

He flipped his lid when I said I didn't go to orientation :thefinger:

I've had more than a couple mine loads where they turned a 15 minute unload into a half day ordeal because of that safety bullshit. It's all these insurance companies flipping out because there are just enough people that wouldn't have sense to pour piss out of a boot with instructions on the heel.

Pulled into a steel mill. Big sign out front, park here, go to channel 14, ask the guard when to go down to sign in. Boots, long pants, hard hat and vest on at all times. Cool get changed, key up and guard says to come sign in.
Douche-canoe behind me doesn't have a CB, and follows me in flip flops, board shorts and a wife beater. I thought the guard was gonna pop a vein he was madder than a wet hen
