Nikola, T/A to Install HD Hydrogen Fueling Stations in California

Nikola’s energy division and TravelCenters of America have agreed to collaborate on the installation of hydrogen fueling stations for heavy-duty trucks at two existing TA-Petro sites in California by first quarter 2023.

This collaboration — still subject to negotiation — is a first step for the parties to explore the mutual development of a nationwide network of hydrogen fueling stations, Nikola officials said in a press release.

Company officials said the first two stations are expected to accelerate adoption of hydrogen fuel-cell-powered commercial electric trucks in and around the greater Los Angeles region, and north through California’s Central Valley. Nikola previously-announced the Nikola Tre fuel-cell electric vehicle, which is expected to have a 500-mile range.

Looking more and more like I'm gonna have to really put thought into my next truck purchase. I wonder who is going to jump into the charging stations first with Tesla? PFJ maybe? Be nice to see AMBEST get in on this and increase their presence.

hydrogen fuel has always made sense to me being it can be stored as a liquid or a gas the infrastructure is already partially in place,existing equipment can be easily modified to use it with a lot of the windmills standing idly by they could be used to provide the power to produce it from water, with a few modification's to the pipeline in place it could replace natural gas to heat homes and power industry.
with all the money that has been spent on developing electric vehicles I think we could have already switched to hydrogen and the world would have been much clearner than it is now

Just to clarify, liquid hydrogen is too much to ever get on board. It has to be kept so cold that it's kept within a liquid nitrogen jacket.

But I don't disagree that fuel cells should be our long term target. Batteries are just too dirty, production and disposal-wise. And batteries have so many limitations necessary for increasing lifespan. Fuel cells have their drawbacks, but the current push basically ignored all the downsides to batteries.

I agree and disagree at the same time.

In this country, we could invest tons of money via the government into this infrastructure and make it work.

How much would we change the carbon footprint? It wouldn't be noticed. Other large industrial countiries have no intention of switching to green energy until they are forced. If we increase our debt to do this, we are just shooting ourselves in the foot with no change to the environment.
