I'm new to trucking and need some advice from you experianced drivers! I'v been looking around at some starter companies and i think i came up with two choices. First choice would be Roehl. I have heard great things about them, but my only problam with them is that, i have heard your not allowed to take truck homd with you on off days. Now i live 100+ miles from headquarters and im not to keen on driving that far to let my car sit for weeks at a time, plus my wife will need the car. Any info about this company would be great if you have any (2.) My next choice was Usxpress. I'v read and heard good and bad things about them. I know they let you take truck home and they also have auto shift which i prefer to drive. So if you have any advice on these two companies please tell me. And if their are any other companies that are good to start out at, let me know.

try con-way truckload, they are a good company, but do not fart the wrong way. They are very picky and will terminate you in a heartbeat for the smallest of things.
Can you expand on that? I am actually a believer that most trucking companies are too relaxed on their company policies, often keeping drivers that need to be terminated.

I had a very minor accident in California, I didn't back into the dock perfect, the dock didn't have the rubber bumbers, the corner of my trailer hit the side of the building between the docks. Safety let me resign or would have fired me for being an unsafe driver. I think they did that because they had over 150 students waiting on a truck, would you rather pay someone .29 a mile or .36 a mile? Con-way is very strict on it's rules, it is a great company to work for, I loved it when I was there. 1 BS incident yor are gone, I just hope someone never has a big incident or accident.

I would ask roehl what they mean by not taking trk home they could just mean youd have to leave it at the nearest trk stop which wouldnt be good in this cold weather unless they have outlets to plug trk in and living 100 miles from their term and youd have to drive back and forth forget it iwould go with usx

No, lol. But they will fire you for tearing up equipment. And that's what that person did, hit the wall and caused damage somewhere.
If you new guys want to get your hands dirty try Warner, I'm retired now and teach at DDA. And we strongly suggest them to our students. They are fair and they have good lanes. And as far as I know they will run you by the house when requested, within reason-
Since I'm here and maybe some new super truck driver will see this. Guys do us all in the industry a favor; be kind and always look out for your fellow drivers.

Id go with USX but the drawback with them is they have all automatics so if u was to quit,chances are you'd have to go thru training.I would'nt go with Rohel for the simple fact u can't take trk home and if can get costly driving back and forth in your car unless Rohel pays for gas which I highly doubt.Oh and welcome to the forum.

When I was looking I was leaning towards Roehl myself. They did seem like a pretty stable and fair company BUT, they govern their trucks at 65. Some of these interstates run faster and if you happen to be there you are kind of gettin' screwed on the miles if you know what I'm saying. As for US Express they are good from what I saw. They do run automatics and when I was in TDS we had a gal come back to learn how to shift again because of this. Personally an automatic is to slow. My trainer ran one with me for a day and at the end of that day I asked where the standard shift was. Werner is a good starter company.... look into TMC if you want to run a skateboard and some nice Petes' Good Luck man.
