...and my car IS NOT in the shop for anything but an oil change.
"first of all.. emissions problems have been around for years"
...and my car IS NOT in the shop for anything but an oil change.
the the guy (ducky) that said the fire sprinkler system was for safety and the EOBR's are not..??
are YOU SURE about your comment..??
wanna get hit with an audit after an accident.?? think the lawyers will not see any "safety" issues here..?? if an EOBR shows a driver, driving when he was not supposed to..??
On a night like tonight, if this was 2 years ago when my company didn't have e-logs, I'd still be on the road right now. I just pulled into some Sinclair truck stop in Lamar, MO for the night, but I'm wide awake. Not even the slightest bit tired. But the nag-machine says I only have a few minutes left on my 14. I've only driven 197 miles today. I could easily make it all the way to the receiver tonight, even though the load isn't due until Wednesday. The receiver is only 300 miles up the road.
I don't think the HOS should allow someone to drive after they've been awake for 14-16 hours or so, because normally I'd be tired at this point. But I didn't drive much. Sitting in the cab goofing off on my laptop doesn't tire me out. But tonight's a good example of when I'd gladly run another 5 hours or so. 20 minutes ago I was out on the highway, window down, 68 degree wind in my face, jamming some Pink Floyd, havin' a good ole' time & then I saw my exit sign & thought to myself "damn it... already?" I just wanted to keep on truckin'.
**** e-logs.
E-logs are for sissies.
You have 3 hours of driving in your entire 14 hour day. Where did you log the rest of your time? What screwed up during the day to prevent you from running a split break?

Had 3 drops in the Kansas City area, then went down to Joplin to get re-loaded.
The first drop was in a complete & total ghetto area, ... looking on Google Maps with the "street view" option it's a narrow street, and on one side is an abandoned building with broken windows, spray paint all over it, .. and a gate at the receiver's entrance. So I stayed at that little truck stop 6 miles away. So I started my day at 4:30 AM for that 5AM appointment. That drop was quick, ... I was leaving, wheels turning, by 5:45. I went about 12 miles to my 2nd drop, got there at 6AM for an 8AM appointment and the bastards didn't even give me a dock until 10AM. It made me late for my 11:30 appointment which was 30 miles away. I got to the last stop at 12:07 PM, and was empty at about 2:30 PM. Then it was 120 miles down to the shipper in Joplin. I got there at 4:30PM. The e-log was only good til about 6:30 but luckily it only took 'em about an hour. But I wasted another 30 minutes waiting for retards to do the math on their fingers while sitting on the shipper's single-platform scale. One idiot even started to slide his tandems on the scale & the guy in front of me got out & bitched at him. Eventually I was able to scale out, slide my tandems, scale again, then send the stupid "loaded at shipper" thingy on the Qualcomm with the weights, seal number, case count, pallet count, trailer number, reefer set temp, temp shown on BOL, reefer actual temp, the odometer reading, current number of pebbles stuck in the tire treads, etc. I had 30 minutes left to go 26 miles so I gently placed the hammer on the floor and tore up highway 71 at a blistering 68 mph.
Then I got here and parked next to a @blackw900 with a spread-axle flatbed, and when I got done laughing at the thought of my noisy reefer waking him up, I thought, ... "well what if it REALLY IS the same black W900??", ... so I pulled out & moved to a different spot. So I wouldn't get my hood torn off when he leaves.

What a crappy day. Time for you to stop anyway.![]()

And mine aint?

I just pulled into some Sinclair truck stop in Lamar, MO for the night, but I'm wide awake.
So, does that logic apply across the board? Like the additional expenses for nObamacare and APU's, parking, etc.? Where would you draw the line and say enough is enough?
You just proved my point. It's about control. And digging up evidence to use against the driver. Bad bad bad.
An intelligent driver can cover his tracks with a paper log when reality interferes with the HOS.
For example, right now I'm wide awake, .. but I've only got 1:30 left on my 14. I only drove 170 miles today. I'm backed into a dock getting loaded. There's a truck stop 26 miles up the road I want to park at when I leave here. I think I'll make it, cuz my air gauge is already reading about 80 PSI on the drive axles, (tandems all the way back) but I'm still all nervous & **** cuz if I ain't headed down the road in 1 hour, I'll have to sit here at this shipper. And I don't wanta do that. There ain't no reason I can't drive 26 miles up the road when I leave here. Like I said, I'm not the slightest bit tired. Just hungry.
And I think they're done loading me now.
Duck ... out.
then turn in your "reality card", because invasion of our privacy has been going on for years. To Glen8963:
Maybe you enjoy having the guberment , and everybody else looking up your a$$ all the time. I, for one, do not enjoy all of these invasions into my privacy, nor will I ever totally accept it as a fact of life.
no, emissions are emissions. cars, trucks, PRODUCE emissions, that's a fact. whether or not one pulls 80,000 lbs, or luggage, they still produce emissions. all emissions from these vehicles are harmful, and need to be "converted" to a cleaner exhaust, by whatever means the engineer's come up with, and make improvements from that point. You also have a bad habit of comparing apples to oranges. Semi-trucks are not cars!!! They were never meant to be driven like cars or meet the same emissions standards of cars. Cars do not normally get driven 100,000 plus miles a year pulling extremely heavy loads in all kinds of weather and road conditions.
Also, the three biggest polluters in the world right now are trains, ships and airplanes. Now I admit that trains have gotten better, but ships have very little pollution control on them, and as far as airplanes go, just sit near an airport some day and watch them dumping the excess fuel in the air before they land. It is absolutely amazing what that will do to your cars paint job if you don't wash it off.
Have a nice day. And I hope you and Uncle Sam enjoy sharing the same bed for many years to come.

.....we [have not] gotten together as a group and stuck together.
we depended on "the other guy doing it, cuz i ain't got no time to get involved".
so why does anyone blame Washington, any safety group, insurance group, etc, etc, when we allowed this to happen..???
someone else WILL DO IT for us, they always do...don't they..???
I agree that on-line petitions won't do crap. In fact I don't think most petitions ever even get seen at the federal level. If you want your voice tp get any attention you need to have a widespread protest. The million trucker march.we'd all like to draw the line, fact is, we are nearly powerless. to sign an online petition is useless. a REAL petition is done door to door by REGISTERED voters. where the signatures can be verified. does anyone think that an online petition will get any results they actually seek..?? knowing the web is full of morons, how many so-called online signatures will actually be counted..?? a percentage will be thrown out simply due to the multi signatures some will send in, using multiple email address. how many signatures will be thrown out all because the respondent is not actually involved in any way shape or form in the trucking industry.>??
*snort!*If you want your voice tp get any attention you need to have a widespread protest. The million trucker march.

*snort!*
Lemme know how that works out for ya.

If I could get 3 truckers to agree on something I would consider it a victory.
