The 'X' means they're overdrives with the standard H shift pattern.
Assuming the P is the performance 9, it had a splitter-like gap between 8th and 9th. To keep the rest of the gear steps balanced, it had a different shift pattern, where you only used top gear in high range, so 4 gears in low range, 5 in high range.
The "B" ratio set was the normal 9 speed pattern of 5 in low range, 4 in high range.
