Need help choosing a company

Hello Truckers! I have recently just graduated CDL School about a month ago and am really excited for this career! I am 21 years old and need some advice from some of you guys on here regarding where to choose to at least start off to get some experience.. I was suggested a company by the school while I was there and everything seemed to be going good with them but unfortunately they could not accept me due to my 2 very minor traffic accidents.. okay well long story short I kept trying and now have found 2 companies that are willing to hire me. One of them is Roehl Transport and the other is Western Express. What have you guys heard about them if you have and what would be the best to use as a stepping stone? I am looking to be a North East Regional Driver by the way. Thanks for all the help fellas.

WOW! Gutsy. Running the NE on a regular basis? Your cojones are bigger than mine. Either that you have way more patience than anyone on Earth.

Having no experience with either company, I can't offer any help there. But I see a lot of both of those companies up and down the Interstates in Florida. I never paid too much attention to drivers that don't make me look at them in a cautious way.

Congratulations. You all managed to go from the usual "what rookie starter company should I go with" to references to the German Nazi party in 6 posts.

That's gotta be a new record for thread derailment.

:biglaugh:

Roehl because their trucks are red.

It's probably actually a wash. Regional and local divisions are usually a little better than their OTR counterparts due to the more limited driver pool.
My eyes are usually "Red" as well..

Despite losing alot of "wheight" I still sleep like APNEA. ..

If I can put that 1st 300 miles or so behind me. ..

Take a Nap ..Eat...maybe "Shower" why I'm good next 350..

That's "Long-Haul" though.

Regional or even Loco "Never" worked out 4 me...

I ain't got that kinda "Energy" anymore to go 16 hours straight.

Long Haul or None .. I'm OUT

I usually work about 11 hours. Start time 2200, stroll in about then or a little after, done around 9. Home by 9:30 usually.

Some days longer, some shorter. Been 52-55 hour weeks mostly.

If you have 16 hour days here, you live too far away.

Always worked better OTR long "miles"..

Got 2/3 days to get there just "cover" 600/650 miles per day

Regional it's piss half your day away on Short Loads then sit in Rush Hour for that EMPTY....then cover another 2/300 miles Dead Tired

Screw them PAY "Hourly" plus OVERTIME then..

Cpm I want "MILES" and "Flexibility"

Night work is nothing like that. But there's something to be said for a comfortable sleeper truck. Definitely less tiring.

I don't even have any stops that are 300 miles. Lol. 225 is the longest.
What I always hated about "Regional" was 2/3 like 100 miles and $15 stop pay..

Then shuttle afew trailers across Chicago ..

Now I got the Eau Claire or past St Paul and I'm "dead" Tired and I gotta at least make Portage Petro to make my clock..

Fuck that mess next time it's Coast 2 Coast

Roehl, because you want to run away from Western Criminal as fast as you can.

eh, they basically have 2 divisions.

"Our Regular Drivers" - New and Safe Drivers
&
"2nd Chance Trucking" - Drivers with DUI's, sketchy criminal pasts, or safety records that make them tough to hire anywhere else.

I say that not to dog on Western Express, just the opposite.
They have lots of great, well paid, safe drivers. They also are trying to give some people a second chance, on a short lease, where they don't have to pay as much. That part is more "experimental" - its the Guinea Pig division.
They can train new office people, dispatchers, and equipment on drivers that might have messed up their first couple of chances and have to make a couple of sacrifices to build up that resume again.

Both are probably good things in the long run, but every so often they do catch one of these guys: Western Express Trucker Rampage Shootout
