Minnesota DOT seeks truckers' input on parking

Another state is taking the initiative to address the truck parking problem by asking drivers for input.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is conducting a survey that is available at the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association Foundation’s website.

Assisted by the American Transportation Research Institute, MnDOT is trying to better understand truck parking issues. The best way to do this is to ask the drivers themselves. ATRI has reached out to OOIDA to gather information from small business owners and professional drivers.

yep, been seeing billboards regarding that and things going up over the last few months.

Waste of time, IMO.

We don't need signs telling us how many parking spots are at a rest area 50 miles away, we need that money being spent to create more parking, if money has to be spent on parking. Period.

Minnesota is awesome for truck parking. Every single small town has plenty of places to park. It’s like Minnesota welcomes truckers with open arms

And fantastic restaurants too. Great food

They need to collect money for conducting surveys, then later they can recommend spending additional money for parking improvements.

They want the stuff we bring, but not the way we bring it.

And it shows at the fuel stops around the south perimeter. They re using them as terminals. Trucks sitting for days and weeks without moving.

You obviously don’t go around Minneapolis/St Paul. There ain’t shit for truck parking. Also there are more and more towns up there banning truck parking. Also one town I forget the name bam the building of a truck stop in their area. “Brings too much crime and drugs” thanks to the media taking the outlaw image to the next level and making look like your modern day trucker is a meth head who likes to buy underage prostitutes. If there was, I probably wouldn't park there anyway. That's one of those areas where it is best to just fight the traffic and park a good distance away from the delivery.

It’s not about out of route, in North Dakota I know a couple mom n pops gas stations with diesel pumps and a big gravel lot out back I can wiggle into. 90% of the time I’m the only truck in there. So I’m not sharing the location hahaha!

Fuck people figured out what casino I park at at home and now the lot fills up every night. Used to be I could roll in at midnight and have pull through parking.

I find lots of spots to park, but my GPS in my Qualcomm can not ping a ten hour break at a bar, gentleman’s club, adult store or anything with multiple xes in the name.

When I first moved up to Rogers, AR. I parked on the street behind a motel right off the interstate. I parked there, and one Maverick truck parked there. He told a couple Maverick buddies, and they started parking there. Then we stood out so some local guy started parking his two trucks there ( and repairing them on site).

Now, forget about parking there during the weekend. If you aren't there by Friday evening, don't even go there. We can get 12 trucks in there if people park like civilized human beings, but they don't so 6-7 trucks takes up the entire area.

Now, the empty area is beginning to be built on. Zaxby's and a carwash were just built, and that is sure to attract more businesses, which will effectively move us farther out to other areas.
