MedicAlert Program? Does anyone have experience with it?

great question. What's a plus for us is it has your medical information readily available to us. so if an unfortunate occurrence happens to someone and they are not near family or their home town, the 24/7 support allows a nearby medical facility to access information. The downside used to be that your information was on a database, but nowadays, all our records are going electronic, so its pretty good overall.

There is a problem, with the pendant/ bracelet anyhow. I ran into it with Mom when she waas up there in years with dementia. She saw it as an invasion of her privacy.... that I was "spying" on her. She wound up giving it to a "neighbor's" grandkids .... a bunch of little thieves who would steal from her purse, etc..... as a "toy". They destroyed it in nothing flat.

I can't answer from the patient's standpoint, but as an emergency responder, MedicAlert was instrumental in the correct treatment choices on several calls. I can't go into details, obviously, but we were able to avoid critical patient allergies on a few occasions and determine what the problem was with an unconscious patient. Had we gone with treatment protocol (if the patient didn't have a MedicAlert tag) we would have killed the patient.

MedicAlert is a great system when people have to be treated by providers outside their primary facility..like in emergencies.
