Marathon

I am the typical fat truck driver. I am carrying an extra 30 to 50 lbs. I haven't weighed myself lately, so I'm not sure and it guess it depends what my base weight should be. I just turned 54 three weeks ago and have been thinking I better get in shape. It sure is harder to get motivated the older you get.

Any way, where I'm from has an annual marathon and a fitness program affiliated with USA Fit, called Austin Fit or Round Rock Fit. They are training programs to get you ready to run a marathon. Being a truck driver, I wouldn't be able to attend the weekly run and seminar.

A couple of days ago a friend asked me to run the San Antonio, half marathon with him. Since I had been thinking about this anyway, I said, "sure!" Now I'm committed.

So if you see me out on the road, give me a swift kick in the rear and ask how far I ran today!

Wow. I always hated running, even in the military. I can't see why anyone would put themselves in a high impact painful exersize like that.

Best of luck.

You aren't going to finish even a half marathon at 54 if you are as overweight and out of shape as you say.

Better get to training!

Make time each day to do a power walk around the truck stop when you stop for the day.

Good luck!

I like puting my ipod on, and running along side my son while he rides his bike or scooter. Its relaxing, just not in the really hot days.
Good luck!

Nowadays my idea of a marathon is sitting in my lazyboy, opening a cold beer and seeing how long it takes me to fall asleep watching the NASCAR race,

I think you and I could start a new championship series!

Start out slow TerryL and add a little more every couple of days. Don't over do it in the heat. Good luck, it is a good think you are doing, any step to getting into a better shape is always a positive thing to do!
