Looking for Newer Truck with Automatic Breaking System in Eastern PA

We are a group of engineers looking to evaluate some of the autonomous emergency braking systems that are being offered in late model trucks. Specifically, we hope to find a truck equipped with either the Bendix Wingman Fusion, MeritorWABCO OnGuardACTIVE, or Detroit Assurance 5.0 system. Depending on the system it is equipped with, the truck will need to be a 2015, 2016, 2017, or 2018. Testing will take place on a closed course near Perkasie, PA and take most of a full day - probably around 9 AM until 12AM. We will be driving the truck towards a foam target and evaluating the truck's ability to recognize the object and apply brakes to avoid a collision. We are able to pay a significant amount for your time/use of the truck.

If you have a truck with one of the systems listed above and are able to travel to Perkasie PA for a day, please reply to this thread or send me a message we can discuss additional details. Thank you!

It's collision mitigation. They're not really designed to full stop. They're meant to reduce the impact.

These companies already test and demo their own systems for potential customers.

Mine comes to a full stop. I actually like this feature in start stop traffic. Just step on the pedal with the cruise set. It will speed up and slow down and even stop with the traffic. I do have to step and the has again to make it start back moving.

I mean it depends how fast you were going in the first place. It's no different than stepping on the brakes yourself. Sometimes you have enough braking to get stopped. In a bad enough situation...you don't. The only things these systems do is reduce reaction times.

...and panic when they see a leaf fall.

That's true Damn thing beeping because of a shadow on the road.

The Bendix crap in that KW I drove last weekend would reduce the cruise if I was gaining on someone. Without the cruise on, it would just start beeping at me.

I don't know if it would actually apply the brakes because I never let the truck get that close to anyone. It was only 3 days, so I didn't have any un-preventable (on my part) brake check incidents like deer, cars cutting me off and standing on the brakes while aiming for an exit ramp, etc. Every time a car did cut me off real close, the Bendix system did nothing but display their speed and my following distance, because they were going faster than me. It doesn't care if you're 6 feet from the back of a car as long as the car is moving faster than the truck is.

But I wouldn't want any electronic nerd equipment having the ability to apply the brakes if I'm driving in snow. Or empty in the rain.

Anyone who volunteers to advance the proliferation of autonomous truck technology should be beaten
Closest I got was last time grain elevator..

They scrapped out the old junkers and made a deal with Ryder Lease..

I think I made a video once these shot out radar and "automatically" hit the brakes..

It's also constantly BEEP and Warn of hazards..

Gosh Dang I've trucking on n off almost 20 years now..

I felt it was like a slap in my face..

But they were sick of breakdowns n wrenching those FL Series from the 1990s Coupla million turned over..

They did what they felt they hadda do..

Also they were short handed just around the operation that freed up a Coupla guys from the shop so they could do other things I guess

If you get close enough and let off the throttle completely it'll apply everything, even jakes on max, to throw you into the windshield and get the truck stopped.

I can't blame Bendix but I can blame the automatic transmission...sorry "automated manual" for almost spinning me out in the rain because it downshifted instead of letting the engine lug a hill. I was easing the throttle back to slow down, it downshifted hard, spun the tires, and I nearly went sideways. Counter steer and traction control helped save me but if it would have held the gear that never would have happened in the first place.

That's like those Ryder Lease jobs my last days at the grain elevator..

I understand "Saftety" n all but I swear to Freaking gosh took me like 2/3 weeks just to get used to that crap

Yeah it's one of those lowest common denominator things. I've overheard conversations between some drivers and the fleet managers so I mean...I get it. When you're so big that your workforce is like 66% like that....well....yeah.

In "Reality" my biggest Issue with them was Joliet Illinois "back" 2 back..

Used to be Channahon but they don't officially OPEN until 6:30 Am..

I once suggested we got all those Rail Containers back there why can't 1st run be drop and empty back..

Now the Corn Syrup plant in Bedford Park when they NEEDED IT they'd open up at MIDNIGHT.

Get that 1st load off and go back load off the Speed Dump by Breakfast ya had 2 done or if I was short on my cash I'd struggle for that 3rd hopper.

That place was also PAY BY LOAD..

Nonetheless I told em I'll go Joiliet Everyday just make that 2nd run..

Or load Containers let us drop n hook em
