Let's Argue About Smoking in Public

This is a false analogy. Waste smoke being breathed out and peeing on others are not Constitutional Rights. Firearms are covered in the Second Amendment to the Constitution.

No its not, but were Injun used the words "gun" she should have used bullets. Bullets are not covered in the Second Amendment to the Constitution.
So now the waste product of the gun is the bullet that kills, just as you non-smokers some how believe second hand smoke will do you in.

I find it vary strange that people are willing to legalize pot so they can openly smoke it, yet so many more want to outlaw tobacco.

Firearms cannot be used without bullets it is a component of the firearm, therefore are covered under the second amendment. Using your logic, you couldn't use oil, or sights, grips or any other non named component.

For the umpteenth time, I have not stated I favor government action against smoking. I do not favor the legalization of marijuana nor do I condone its use.

...and furthermore, I have never seen a smoker take a deep drag of smoke and hold his or her breath for the purpose of exhaling it into a nonsmoker's face. That's just ridiculous.

There may be some hyperbole going on. That may not be the reason, but that is what happens. Every smoker I have seen will do something similar. They will take one last drag before they throw their butt on the ground and then step indoors or into a vehicle, then they will exhale into the confined space. Usually, in close proximity to a non smoker. It is inconsideration at its highest.

But how do you know that person is a non-smoker?

Actually, here's what I do:

I take my last drag about 25 feet from the door and look for a receptacle to put the stub in. Since it's usually a trash can, I field strip the stub and scuff out the cherry on the ground. The stub goes into the trash can. Meanwhile, I blow out hard and take a couple of deep breaths to clear my lungs before entering the building.

I've usually put the cigarette out before parking and put the butt into a juice bottle with water in it because I'm from the NorthWest and hate forest fires. I don't smoke in my car and when I smoke in my truck, the window is all the way down. You can't smell smoke in my truck.

Most people are surprised when they realize I smoke. There are some I've been around for months and didn't know until they saw me light one.

So quit generalizing.

So, how would you feel about a non smoker peeing on your leg? Both are waste products being expelled from the body.

I can honestly say that I would not feel good about that.
Man, do I hate a sloppy drunk........:drunk2:

And yet I get that warm, wet feeling down my back every time a politician comes on tv......

terrylamar, you are so full of **** it's coming out your ears.

You're one of those nonsmokers who believes my three cubic feet of exhaled air is going to float along like a balloon, seek you out and attack you because you don't smoke. You think you have a right to enter private property and dictate what the property owner must do because you're there and b'gawd, it'll be done your way, despite the fact the property owner has the right to exclude you for any, or no, reason.

As for my personal aroma, I would be happy to stand amongst any random group of people and challenge you to pick out all the smokers. If you didn't know what I look like, you would miss me every time. My step mom has the best sense of smell of anyone I've ever known. She has never smoked a single cigarette, not even an exploratory puff. Every time I'm around her, she sniffs me and asks hopefully whether I've quit smoking because she doesn't smell it on me. And I disappoint her every time. This is the woman who knew I'd had a wine cooler when I was 15 by smelling me from across the room as I opened the front door to go in the house...and I'd drank that cooler 45 minutes previous then chewed gum.

I don't hang around only with smokers and I'm not a 4-pack-a-day chain smoker. I smoke the equivalent of 6 cigarettes a day, although I usually light 10.

I'll smell your two-day butt funk long before you'll smell my cigarettes.

Once again, show me where I advocated the government banning smoking. I, simply, stated that they were, not that they should.

Actually I was referring to your statement that eventually it will become to expensive and dangerous so everyone will quit. That is the false belief a lot of this nonsense like smoking bans, large soda, msg , sugary drinks........... legislative :poo: comes from.

It does nothing but move the price scale and suck yet more resources from those whom do not care "for their protection".

Yes I understand you are not advocating the laws. But it is the belief that if they are passed an activity will end I am addressing.

All the way through this thread, you claim a right to enter an eating or drinking establishment (private property) and, further, claim a right to set your own rules (smoking laws) for it despite the fact it's private property and you do not NEED to be there. You have the option to not enter.

And I specifically said I would smell your body odor before you would smell my smoke. Apparently, you're conceding that point if you think I have to stick my nose up your ass to do so, which contradicts your claim that you will smell me 100 yards away. But, as you say about smokers, people can't smell themselves when they need showers, even if everybody else can.

Damit man!
I KNEW we were related.
Although I wish my mom would tell me when she remarries...........

She once tracked a burning cigarette outside her classroom, around the building about 15O ft., to two kids behind the gym.....all before they could get more than a few puffs.

I am a smoker. I know there is the smell of tobacco on me and around me. I cannot stand the smell of stale smoke. I can admit It is an addiction. No taxation or price increase will make most smokers quit any more than the expense of street drugs make an addict quit. It is a legal product. If Government was so concerned about the welfare of it's constituents they would ban it out right. They don't. They tax the hell out of it, No better than any other drug dealer.

The bars in my area came under Government legislation telling them smoking was not permitted in bars or indoors for that matter. The bars started closing quickly, Some on their own when the law came into effect others by going broke. Let's face it healthy Lifestyle folk don't drink a whole lot.

They are now trying to take it a step further and ban outdoor smoking in certain areas. The old Government gets an inch and takes a mile.

I am not pro smoking.

Strange aint it when the government made the vary first smoking ban the non-smokers held the feds on high ground for doing it. I thought then this would lead to more and more banning of places and it has.

What the feds should have done is made business owners declare there either a 100% smoke free business or there not and post signs on the doors stating as such.

Theres a truck stop in Owensboro that has done that vary thing. Warning signs on the doors declaring "This is a SMOKERS Restaurant, NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 ALLOWED IN. The whiny truckers hang out there but you wont find any screaming kids in there.

Does anyone remember what business the feds put a stop to smoking in?

It sure has and Big 'ol fat people are next.

That makes sense and gives bar owners their rights. That's probably why the Government never thought of it.

Yes, Big brother knows how to live your life better than you do.

I don't really care about smoking being banned in restaurants. As soon as I'm done eating, I want to leave anyway. Especially when I'm on a schedule.

It's bars I don't bother with any more. I'd rather sit & drink around a campfire than hang out with a crowd of strangers anyway.

The restaurant at the Exit 44 Truck Stop in Prescott, AR is like that, too. That C-Store is where I used to get those yummy fried pies.

People moving: Airlines, trains and interstate bus lines.

Just once I would like to find a place that allows kicking the crap out of the "I know how to live your life better than you do" crowd.

The funny thing about it is I am stronger, can run faster and longer and have clearer lungs than 75% of the people who tell me my habits are bad for me. My resting pulse rate runs between 60 and 70, my blood pressure averages 104/62, respirations 16, body fat content 24% (I'm female) and good energy level... In other words, I'm healthier than the people trying to legislate my health. I must be doing something right...

Well it put a huge dent in our Legion Membership. The vets would come and have a beer and smokes and shoot the ****. Membership dropped off severely when the ban on smoking in bars came into effect. They would rather sit home and enjoy a few beers and light up when they wanted to. It was fine for the Government to supply booze and smoke when they where defending the government and our rights/ Way of life. That's how you repay them?

I have stopped going to the legion too. At home I can have some beers light up when I wish.
