Knight/Swift to buy US Xpress.

I'd be willing to wager that the CEO's and on down in upper management won't have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. They skimmed off the top and now they'll realize the profit on the sale of the company.

Pretty soon, there will only be 2-3 mega-carriers to work for in the freight business, 1 or 2 in the bulk petroleum tank sector and 1 or 2 in the LTL side.

I started out there on a dedicated account. Wasn't all bad being dedicated but the 6 day weeks grew tiresome.

Dedicated is like working for a little company. Everything is self contained for the most part.

One of my former coworkers there ran over and killed a motorcyclist because he was watching a football game on his phone.

My uncle told me that back in the 90s and the way TFI Transforce is buying everything up, I believe it now.

I'll gladly pay a small premium to a small chain or mom & pop that takes Comdata just to avoid those places.

The cheaper the fuel, the more packed with pieces of shit.
Its not so much that it's that the Mega-Carriers have "Fleet-Accounts" and the drivers fuel card only works at those chains so they all end up crowding the same places that's why I generally avoided Pee-Lot & Loves like the "Plague" if I could

XPO did it several years ago then basically imploded and only do LTL now. That's why we're not XPO anymore and their former logistics services are called GXO.

All these companies eventually get too big for their britches.
There's an xpo yard not too far from us mostly wiggle wagons though. Most of our trucks can't even tow them if a heavy has to take the truck or we need to impound a trailer. Some of our trucks have pintles for that among other things and it's a whole shit show.

This may be a stupid question, but why would you have to impound one? Drugs, fatality??

They got one a few weeks back. Big truck doing like 100 in a 50 KPH zone. Truck impounded lic suspension 30 days.
One of the MTO guys was telling me about the brake thing when I first started. Apparently Ontario is the only jurisdiction in North America that does that for brakes.

Plates get pulled then they have to pay to get it fixed at the scale. We take it for a minimum of two weeks or till we're paid. If it's loaded they may get to transfer or offload depending what it is.

Back in the 90s working for that renegade company I got caught going around the Oakville scales. Local cop gave me a "summons" to go directly to the eastbound Oakville scale.
I had a couple brakes out of adjustment. The boss came and adjusted the brakes and we were good to go!

The inspector was Dereck, I think he still works there. After the inspection we got talking and he was actually a cool guy, just doing his job.

If you're gonna dodge a weigh station on side roads ya go a little outta you're way because in many places they will watch side roads along main route see if trucks pull off an exit or two before the scales..

Also in Washington State I was pulled over and received a Warning for improper lane change but before I was let go the local cop summoned a "DOT" Certified Officer to check me out a little bit before I was allowed to leave finally
