Is there any legal way to actually transport alcohol for your consumption on a commercial truck?

If you're sitting in the drivers seat with the engine running, or even the key in the ignition, a lot of pigs will say you're on duty so they can "justify" making an arrest & pleasing their bosses.

If a person wants to buy a semi tractor as a commuter vehicle to their office job, they are free to do so. So long as they carry the required insurance.

What then? Can you carry a six pack home then?
Its all how its tagged and registered. Then that may open up another can of worms in some states. In Kentucky if it was registered as a personal vehicle its now personal property and would be tax as so. I would hate to pay that tax every year! But if I had the cash to blow on a new truck just to drive to work I probably wouldn't care anyways.

True. Here in Cheeseland they even charge more for heavier pickups (and naturally everyone lies about how big theirs is), and I'd hate to see the fees for a class 8 tractor for non-commercial use, that's not registered to a business and being run "not for hire".

Still, there are people who have more money than sense...so it's probably happened...

I almost bought a decommissioned Roadway bobtail in 2005. They were selling them for scrap value, and they still ran. I just wanted to bring it home & put a little dump box on it just to carry stone for traction & put a plow on it just to plow my driveway. I know where I can get a snow plow for a class 8 truck for free.

The trucks they were selling didn't have power steering though. Is it even possible to steer a weighted-down bobtail with a HUGE highway department size plow sticking 8 feet ahead of the steer axle and NO POWER STEERING? :stare1:

Sure it is. You just can't do it at a standstill.

I actually owned a truck with no power steering once. If you were stopped you were literally standing in the seat trying to turn the wheel. You learned pretty quick that even .5mph helps.

I tried to put a 48 footer in a dock once with a day cab that didn't have power steering.

I left it all crooked as hell, but close enough, LOL.

What's worse though, is the time when I had a Sterling's power steering pump blow up when I was leaving St. Paul & heading to Milwaukee. I was by that TA at exit 4 ... Hudson or something, ... anyway I pulled in there & called Roadway & they said just take it to Milwaukee so I said ok & did it.

Just countering the slight slope for rain runoff in the right lane took constant pressure. I got to the Milwaukee terminal & this scrawny little bean-pole of a yard jockey walked up & he was gonna spot my trailers. He was about 6 feet tall, maybe 150 lbs. Toothpick arms like a girl. I told him "ya better just un-hook & use a different horse, cuz you're not gonna be able to turn this steering wheel". He said "half the trucks don't have power steering" with kind of a "you don't know what you're talking about" kind of attitude. I said "ok, whatever" and walked into the drivers lounge. I saw him get in the truck, move it about 20 feet, stop, unhook the trailers, pull the bobtail forward about another 50 feet, park it, get out, grab another truck & hook up to the trailers & pull away, leaving that Sterling sitting there. LMAO. So a few minutes later I was walking back out there trying to find my truck to take back to Chicago & the same yard jockey guy pulled up in a Volvo bobtail & said "How far did you have to drive it like that?" I says "4 miles from the Minnesota state line". He looked at me like I was crazy & said "I'd have told 'em to send a wrecker!" :biglaugh:

Yes, I drove an 84 cabover freightliner with no power steering. You learned quickly to start turning the wheel quickly at an intersection when making a turn. Worst two weeks of my trucking life, LOL

I liked driving Roadway's old junk that didn't have power steering. Just don't ask me to back into any tight areas.. :D

I only had to do it once though. I was line-haul. My job was to hop in the truck at the terminal, already hooked to a trailer, and drive it to another terminal & park it & walk inside. Turning corners was no problem at all. And actually, .. in snow I felt like I had better control of the truck than in the Volvos because I got a better feel for the steer axle's traction.

If you're parked on private property like at a truck stop, you can walk inside & get some beer & drink it in your sleeper.

But the key can't be in the ignition, and you can't be sitting in the drivers seat. It's gotta stay in the sleeper, not the cab. And get rid of the empty cans/bottles in the morning before you leave. And your BAC level better be zero before you start driving.

No, you can not consume alcohol in your CMV, even if you're on private property and keep it in your sleeper. Some of you all may want to refer to the actual FMCSR book instead of asking about rules and regs on the internet. All you're going to get is a dozen different answers to which all think they are correct. Read the book instead of asking someone named "Duck"

Duck has a ton of great information and so does his little cousin @Electric Chicken. But if you want to know something you ask the unicorn or driver.

According to another anonymous person on the internet... :biglaugh:

I'd rather ask Duck. Reading little green books is for pussies.
