I was one of the chosen for a bad experience

Sean McQuaid

Whiny baby
This is long, but take it for what it is worth. It's the God's Honest TRUTH, and others have had similar experiences. I am now unemployable because of the games played in a bad recession, and I can probably forget about driving EVER again thanks to Werner.

Before I went to trucking school I didnt think it really mattered where you got your CDL. I knew how to drive a car good enough, how hard could it be to drive a big truck? It is not really that hard at all when you do it every day and pay attention to what you are doing. However, There is a lot more to it than just driving a truck down the road. It’s the trucking rules and regulations that you can learn or not learn in trucking school that can come back to haunt you. I believe a good school should teach you all the dos and don'ts so it is known before you go to some company who intends to use you as they will as it is a foregone conclusion most drivers (especially new drivers) are stupid and ignorant. Trucking is too regulated to be over-ignorant; and in the end, no matter where you go to school, it's YOUR responsibility to learn the regulations and do what you have to do to adhere to them.

The majority of trucking schools rush you in the front door and out the back door with a CDL (maybe). You end up getting a job working for a break-in trucking company that cares more about moving loads than you or your CDL. A lot of these trucking companies are willing to look the other way if you bend the rules a little bit to get freight moved - especially if you are a new driver who is paid at the bottom of the pay scale. It is common practice that new drivers are dogged and brainwashed into working more hours than they realize is legal so the company will avoid the low paid driver from having to do a 34 hour restart. Even drivers who realize this allow themselves to be pushed because they are afraid of losing their jobs. And in this economy and job market, you WILL lose the job if you do not allow the obvious abuse. It was my experience that Werner is one of these companies. I experienced that Werner will encourage you (even order you) to log off duty, when you are legally and rightfully on duty. In my case as a new driver, Werner did not want to see more than the 15 minute D.O.T. minimum for pretrip inspection at the beginning of my work day. Where pretrip is concerned, I am baffled of why D.O.T. allows 15 minutes. A PROPER pretrip takes longer than 15 minutes - it takes as long as it takes - PERIOD. Second of all, if something happens while enroute, and it can be attributed to a poor pretrip. Then YOU will be responsible to answer why you only show a 15 minute pretrip inspection. I happen to know this has happened to other drivers. There are catches and concequences to the loopholes. In my performing all else, they wanted me on line 1 (off duty). This included when I arrived at a shipper or consignee to get dock assignments or my bills, doing drop and hook, waiting to be loaded or unloaded - etc.. Any D.O.T. official will tell you that you are ON DUTY NOT DRIVING (line 4) whenever you are performing ANY function for the company, and can not leave the truck and do as you please. And it is also outlined in the D.O.T. regulations book. When you are on line 1 (off duty), you are on YOUR TIME, and as such, you should be able to do as you please such as go somewhere to eat - etc.. The most common time I have seen drivers log off duty is during load or unload. During load or unload, unless you can walk off and do as you please during the time you decide to log off duty, you are not on YOUR OWN TIME. Therefore, you are on duty not driving (line 4). Yet drivers will log line 1 (off duty) or line 2 (sleeper) if the waiting is over 2 hours to split their break because of loopholes. You're waiting to be loaded or unloaded - that's not YOUR TIME because you have to stay in the truck to be informed when the load or unload is complete. But you have big problems with companies like Werner if you do not log line 1. My trainer tried to get me to log off duty, and so did my dispatcher when I was rightfully and legally on duty not driving on other occasions other than waiting to be loaded or unloaded. I know of the loopholes drivers use to save on their 70 hour. Other drivers who do not mind being pushed to 80 and 90 hours a week on the job - that's fine for them. That is if you even really know what the rules are and the consequences that go with breaking them. But those of us who do not wish to be pushed into (technically) being on duty more than 70 hours a week get raked over the coals. I was.

Drivers being abused (and allowing it) is a danger to themselves and everyone on the roads. Especially a new driver who is expected to work 80 hours a week and run like he has ten years experience on the road. Sooner or later, you will end up rolled in a ditch. Or worse, kill someone or yourself. The company will se it as another unfortunate tragic accident, and your driver code go down in history as another driver who was probably at fault.

Unfortunately going to a poor trucking school could result in you going to prison for a long time! That’s Right! Truck drivers are encouraged to fib a little on their log books by dispatchers to get loads moved on time. Some schools will tell you this, but MOST will not because they are in cahoots with the major carriers who take students. I also have been told that dispatchers are paid more as they run drivers more. And my dispatcher (JD Hodgestradt) more often than not, gave me loads that could barely be delivered ontime driving in the best of conditions (best being no traffic or bad weather) and not stopping for breaks, showers or food. The distance did not matter. I had what they call JIT (Just In Time) loads than not. Just about every load I had did have a delivery window which far exceeded what I was given by my dispatcher. I checked when I arrived at my stops, so I am sure of this fact. I even had a load that was so tight that I had to request personal drive time and drive two hours to the nearest place where I could shut down. I was not allowed to sleep where I dropped my load, and this was in the New York area at night when truck stops are impossible to get into. Werner's faulty paperless electronic logging aside - A log book is just a piece of paper right? No big deal! What could it hurt? You are just trying to make a living and get home on time without having to take another required break right? Go ahead and fool yourselves or let the dispatcher or company fool you. Then see how much they care when you have an accident or get an expensive violation for breaking a rule, or even lose your CDL. Traditionally in a good economy and job market, Over The Road Drivers who are away from home 3+ weeks at a time with only 1 day off per week can be hard to come by. In this economy and high unemployment, they have an army of students coming in from the bottom which they are getting government bailout subsidy money for. In the end, new drivers are an added dollar sign for companies getting subsidised by the Government for taking on students. Drivers are being cycled through like cattle. New drivers the company has the money from the Government for, or (and especially) veterin drivers making more per mile than most are being pressured into quitting or terminated for the silliest of reasons. They find ways to set you up for failure. I doubt they care for drivers in the company rigs or the motoring public. In the end, it's your responsibility to know the regulations and when you are breaking them. Most trucking schools will not teach you everything. If you are in a 3 week CRASH COURSE school, you certainly will not know everything. Read the books you are given - it's all in there.

Most trucking schools will come up short training you, and informing you about these types of things, and it is too bad. Try telling the court that you didn’t know this thing and that thing was against the law in your jury trial when you rack up 20 log book violations and face up to 5 years for each one!

Are you willing to go to prison for taking shortcuts when it comes to getting your CDL training and picking a truck driving school? Then allowing the company you work for to push you into doing things not legal just because you are at the bottom of the pay scale, and are new and stupid? You will be operating a commercial vehicle under federal rules and regulations. Learning to drive a truck is not a game and getting trained properly is crucial! If you are going to get a CDL please read the D.O.T. regulations. No load was worth my running my 80,000 pound rig into someone's car and taking someone dad, mother or family out.

In the end, I lost my job with Werner because I was smart enough to know when I was used and abused. And I was not afraid to take a stand. But I did not have the things to lose others have (such as a house or a family). What hapened to me will certainly happen to any driver who is not a 100% YES MAN and will allow himself to work 80 - 90 hours a week for $600.00 - $700.00 (this is less than MINIMUM WAGE). And I am unemployable in the industry because I do not have 6 months to one year first seat driver experience most require, and I have the termination on my DAC report. Trucking is needlessly and maliciously ruining the lives of others because of the economy we are in and the subsidies they are getting for student drivers. Unless you allow yourself to be abused, you will not be able to keep a trucking job in this economy and job market. Even when the economy gets better and trucking stops fooling around with people the way they are, there are many of us with ruined lives and driving reports because of the abuse and games played in a bad economy. We have to lump it.

Like I said, believe what you will. I have been shown that if you balk at not being able to stay washed and fed, you will have a problem. I don't care how long other drivers go without a shower or decent food - that's their choice. There is no reason with the amount of drivers coming in that you have to be run like a slave. It's a DIRTY industry. More so now with the economy, and the way these companies are subsidised for taking on students. As far as I am concerned, my life was unnecessarily ruined.

OOOHHH - Forgot one thing: Sinister posted some links to carriers hiring. I checked into just about everything. CR England wanting 6 months, not hireable by others because of the Werner termination on my DAC or the fact I am not in a spacific hiring area. It goes on and on - it was always something. These are other things that can break your spirit.. Thanks though for trying to help.

Paranoia, distrust and conspiracy talk here: I remember going through training with Swift and Werner - especially orientation, and hearing: "it's not a question of IF you get a citation, but WHEN"; almost as if you are being primed for it and they hope it happens. No way I am getting a violation for something I know beforehand I can prevent. No matter what carrier I am with.

Well, it comes down to this: if you want to drive, you'll find a way. If not, then you really didn't want to anyway.

No harm done, no hard feelings. This industry isn't for everyone, and yes, I've actually met guys who've tried this job, and been man enough to admit they couldn't do it for one reason or another.

There are MANY other trucking related jobs though. You can be a douchebag dispatcher, a pain in the ass maintenance guy, or any of the other lesser beings that aren't worth my time.

But hey, it's a living.

(I'm kidding)

Siister: Trust me, I have been trying to find a way. No offense, but you are on the other side of the fence and don't see everything from my side - you don't need to. Believe me when I tell you that I have been trying and will continue to try. But I can't buy "if I really want to drive, I can" analogy.

HeHeHeHeHe, no way do I want to be a douchebag dispatcher. Nor anything else in the industry that does not involve driving. That's not what I got a CDL-A for.

The only thing I admit to not being able to do in this industry is taking the B.S. I have had to take. Being out weeks at a time and driving all over the country putting up with morons in their 4 wheelers is not my issue. I could even deal with the low pay.

No problem on your kidding. It's all good.

Sean I have'nt read your entire post only the first paragraph. But that's exactly what i'm saying. You either go by the trucking companies rules and practices or you'll be jumping from one job to the next as long as you're a trucker. You won't be there long enough to get fired, you'll just quit because they are not 100% safety and legal. You tell me 1 just one company that is 100%safety and legal. You better think again if you think P.A.M is 100%legal.

So let me get this straight, when you're at the cust you leave yourself on line 4 just because u can't take the trk out of the customers lot to do as you please? So you say you;re doing a function.OK what r u doing onduty besides sitting at the customer waiting to get loaded or unloaded? Are you helping the customer? Are you cleaning your trk?No you're just sitting there. If you wanna go strickly by the book well when you're at the customer sitting in the driver seat you had better leave yourself on line 3.As long as youre in the driver seat u r considering driving,Sean dear if by chance u do survive the industry. You're going to find out real quick that if you go strickly legal the way u prefer it then you might as well be making twice at much washing dishes.I don't at all cheat when im on line 3 as long as im in the drivers seat and driving i leave it at that. But when im at a cust 15 minutes lding and unloading. Then up to line1.If im not doing anykind of work, why would u wanna burn up your 70.Werner is paperless.Once that 14 hr clock is done then u r for 10 hrs and Werner wont dispute that.So it's not like you dont get the rest u need.Howabout the swapping and splittling werner does do u leave yourself on line 4 while waiting for your next ld or driver?

Im sorry folks I have 1 more thing to say then i'll shut uo.LOL Sean awahile back I had a full DOT inspection this took 2 hrs checked trk trl logs paperwork license medical car permits the whole 9 yds.He did put me out of service because the yellow parking brk would'nt pop out when we did the brk test.DOT told me to only log 45 minutes for the inspection even though it took 2 hrs.I'm sitting outside waiting for the mechanic.Do u think I should have left myself on line4 while waiting?I don't think so because i'm not doing anything but sitting on the lawn having a little picnic while waiting. How would you have logged it? ok im done have to go to truckstop and hook up have a great day everyone.

That's right. If I can not do what I want to do - or need to do - it's not MY time. If I have to be somewhere, whether doing or waiting, it's the company's time. Do you think on jobs other than trucking that employers stop paying you during the times you may be waiting to get other things done? Yeah Yeah, I know - trucking is not a regular job. I know trucking has their own rules no matter how many hours you can be on duty a day. Yeah, you have to PHYSICALLY be doing something to be on line 4, your time being taken does not matter. I understand it all. Okay, I am not performing a function when I am somewhere the company sent me to, waiting for something for the company unless I am PHYSICALLY doing something - fine. For the record: I HAVE been cleaning my truck when waiting to be loaded or unloaded. Many drivers have a dirty truck as well as themselves, and that seems fine for them. That truck was my HOME when on the road. I live clean. Werner was probably very happy to not have to do ANY cleaning whatsoever when I turned that T-600 in. And the driver who got it was probably in paradise - at least until he trashed it. I constantly cleaned that truck at my stops. And that's a third reason I'd never do team. I'm very particular about how I live. Next thing is someone will tell me that just because I wanted to drive a truck for a while, I have no right to expect to be able to shower every day. This industry wants a lot for so little. Why point out Werner is paperless? It does not matter other than you really can't cheat as easily with Werner. And that paperless logging caused me enough grief in that it constantly put me on line 4 while I was behind the wheel driving and I had to do daily log corrections. The system puts you on line 4 if you're in traffic too long or at a traffic light - it SUCKS! As for load swaps, I did not do too many, and those I did do, I always met the driver. Would I stay on 4? Depends. In the end, this saving on the 70 just gets you to be on the go more hours per week. As for a D.O.T. inspection taking 2 hours: if it took 2 hours, I log 2 hours if the truck, logs - etc. is actually being inspected all that time. A D.O.T. officer told you to log 45 minutes?!?! If so, and if it were me, I'd tell him NO, this inspection was two hours. What is he going to do, give me a citation for logging legal?!?! As for P.A.M. or anyone else not being totally legal and by the book - I'm sure you are right. I guess everyone thinks the regulations were written to be broken. Tell a D.O.T. officer with a bug up his A$$ one day who decides he wants to give you a log violation that you did it because it is the norm, because the company told you to do it, because the dispatcher told you to do it. Just because something is the norm does not make it right, or will relieve anyone from getting a citation - period. So if I can not run by the book, then that is what makes this industry not for me. I can accept that. I never intended it to be long term anyway. Even if it were long term, I'd not bend and just take it as tough luck for me when I am not permitted to work because I go by the book.

I reiterate: The D.O.T. regulations are written for a reason. All who carry a CDL should be aware of the rules and what those rules mean. They contain no ambiguities nor frivolous in any way. They are not open to company or driver ammendments or their own interpretations. They are rules that should be followed without exeption. If a company can not give loads that can not be delivered on time while going by the book, thee is a problem. Just as there is a problem if a company or driver can not stay in business going by the book. Friggin right this is not for me if I have to be encouraged to bend certain rules on a daily basis. So I'm in agreement with you people who say this is not for me. I do admit to being overly hard where MY TIME is concerned - but that's the way I see things when I am in a place not of my choosing waiting for something for the company. And as I mentioned, I cleaned my truck while at stops whether or not anyone believes it or not. It was evident I kept after it when my truck was seen at terminals.

The logging issues seem to be the topic of taboo for me with folks. I am not dealing with it anymore. The industry is just not for me - FINE.

And I have been to unemployment and am collecting. I'd still prefer to be working.

Third friggin time I used the word NOT too many times in a sentance - pissess me off. I meant: IF A COMPANY CAN NOT GIVE LOADS THAT CAN BE DELIVERED ONTIME WHILE GOING BY THE BOOK, THEN THERE IS A PROBLEM :banghead::headscratch2:.

Siister: Trust me, I have been trying to find a way. No offense, but you are on the other side of the fence and don't see everything from my side - you don't need to. Believe me when I tell you that I have been trying and will continue to try. But I can't buy "if I really want to drive, I can" analogy.

No problem on your kidding. It's all good.

I certainly understand your frustrations. But the best I can say is, welcome to trucking.

I was thinking about it earlier; NOBODY puts up with teh crap truckers do just to make a paycheck, and to us it seems normal. Just the order of the day to wake up late, still end up being the first one empty (YES!!! THAT'S AN AWESOME THING TO HAVE HAPPEN AT ATS!!!) have to rush like a retard, and then get there, and find out the refinery expansion project is shut down due to rain. And it's still raining. Sooo, tomorrow is probably screwed too. I just cleared my truck bills, so I have no money going home, and last week was so thin I lost my temper at my fleet manager.

I just did my laundry. I spent 8 bucks, and pulled my stuff out of the dryer still not dry. It's hanging all over the sleeper behind me as I type this.

I'll probably piss in a bottle while moving fourteen times in the next two weeks (and they want to legally ban texting - HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!), just so I don't have to log stops where the GPS in my truck registers "idling" (if I stop and start again it says "driving detected", so shutting it off isn't an option to beat the GPS either)...therefore mandating that I match my log to my GPS, and log 15 minutes off duty. The technology that has been incorporated into this industry is going to totally transform it, and I'm not optimistic. I think drivers are going to spend dreadful amounts of time away from home, for the same or worse wages. Less freight delivered means less profit for the companies. The rates on freight certainly won't increase...

I was home for 5 days over Labor Day. I've been home for 36 hours since then. I have a 3 year old boy, and I live centrally located to FOUR major accounts for this company. I'm stunned at the number of drivers at this place that think that's normal. ON specialized freight, maybe. When I hauled blades, we were gone weeks. Not general freight. This is just stupid.

But this job saved my house. I put up with it because I drive a truck, and did what I had to do.

If you are really a RULES AND REGS kinda guy - this ain't the industry for you. The more rules and regs they force on us, the more we are forced to ignore - just to make a goddamned living.

And you're not going to change the system that much.

A person like you should become a lobbyist. Call OOIDA. Maybe they are looking for an articulate, intelligent, educated person to make speeches on the House floor.

There's a spot for you in this industry, where you can do a lot of good.

But I don't think it's on the road.

I've always though that I'm one of the ones that's "supposed to be out here". Supposed to.

I don't think that's you.

Thanks sinister (not siister LOL). Like I said to patriciajnsn, I agree this is not for me. Especially if I am not allowed to run legal or by the book. It is true I am a regs kind of guy. My background made me that way (aviation and the military to name a couple). But I also stand firm on regs being written for a reason, and not to be ignored or bent in any way. But only in terms of the nonsense and head games do I agre with you, patriciajnsn and others who say this is not for me.

I will continue to try to get back. Only to do a year or two and pay for the CDL. I will not pay for the CDL with any other job. Mainly because my original contract was breeched and the school/Driver Solutions are the ones who set me up with Swift and Werner in the first place. But as soon as the CDL is paid for, and my regular work is up and running again - I am GONE. At least with the big company O.T.R. jobs. But I am hell bent on getting back because I will not pay for the CDL with any other type of job, and to prove to myself I can do it. Driving is easy. Getting into docks is relitively easy. Dealing with the unnecessary B.S. is not.

The lack of pay is a prime example of why I would not, and never will, leave myself open to any latitude where I can get an expensive citation or lose my CDL. The pay no where near made it worth my even considering my bending any rules whatsoever. Nor made it worth it to me to technically work more hours for the same money.

Believe me, in what you say about me being a lobbyist or spokesperson in any way - I'd do it in a heartbeat is asked. For an industry that is among the most "regulated", it sure lacks enforcement and discipline where it is needed.

Be safe out there, and watch that texting.

This a fact which needs to be may available to new drivers. So, can you post this message to the new truckers area?
Very good message!
Are there any trucking companies which treat their employees fairly?
Also, may quote you?

As one is studying the trucking field prior to entering trucking school, your posts ( long with the reply's to it) have enlighten me about the realities of the trucking field.
As one who worked in a wide variety of industries, I am well aware that the bottom line of most business is the "almighty dollar", not the health and well fare of their employees or even obeying the law.
It would be useful if your message were made available in the new driver forum on this board and other boards because most people either cannot research the boards or are blinded by the glamor of the "Hollywood" image presented to them by the recruiters or the news media[:pimp:
So, keep up the good work of tearing of the false mask put on by the trucking industry and the driving schools who lie (either by omission or commission) to the public and prospective students about the wonderful world of truck driving.

h.o.s. and truckers compensation

A good link to further study this problem Sean has raised is: Sweatshops On Wheels

The shocking deterioration of working conditions in recent years is highlighted by the plight of the professional long haul freight driver, or trucker.

I am not sure if this thread is directed to me, but if so:

I don't believe ANY trucking company treats their drivers fairly. This is based on my personal experience with two companies, what I have heard from the MANY drivers I have talked to out there, and what I have read. It does not take a 20, 10, 5 or even 1 year veterin to figure that out.

For something that is supposed to be the most "regulated" job in the ground transportation industry, it sure needs a lot more regulation on how drivers are treated from those running the companies as it is regulated by the D.O.T..

No problem on quoting me. That's why I used my REAL NAME on this forum. I am not hiding behind a "screen name". I am speaking of the exact things I experienced, and if it happened to me, it has to have happened and is happening to others. I'm just not afraid to speak out. And this is knowing that there are probably those who call the hiring shots may be reading these threads as well, and I may be put on the "never hire in a million years list" by a lot of people. I say SO BE IT. Those who'd put me on that list are probably those also inclined to abuse their drivers; and if I can't work without a half ounce of respect, not be set up to fail, and not expected to bend D.O.T. regulations. Then the job is not worth me having. Not for the MINIMUM wage it actually is for new drivers; and the fact it is the DRIVER who is out there making the company money, putting up with the hazards of the highways, and it being the DRIVER'S responsibility to keep the CDL clean.

I will mention yet again that there are drivers happy with all companies out there. There will be supporters of every company. There will be newbies who make it to driving their first year with the first company they are with. But ALL companies have to have SOME happy drivers - even SOME LIFERS and MILLION MILERS. There has to be SOME good rep with any company that wants to have ANY drivers at all. But it is my belief the chances are better than even these days newbies won't make it beyond a few months. The root of the problem is the student subsidy money these carriers get which needs better regulation from the government. Carriers are abusing the program to make up for lost freight revenue. I'll talk about that when I post my shorter, more concise, re-written personal experience which will be posted in the new drivers section soon.

I didnt read your entire post sean i need to sleep tonite lol anyhow youre exactly correst companies do not treat drivers fairly and neither does fmcsa im more hateful towards them then the companies they let this go on and will not change anything in our favor its all about them and the 4wheelers heck with the safety of the drivers oh and most of all its all about money many things need to change but will it nope

welcome to the club.deboer transportation out of blenker wi. put the screws to me.but dont give up,hang in there. the best we can do is keep posting the warnings and keep the experienced drivers informed. i dont see how they can get away with the lies and illegal activities, but after nearly 10 months of being unemployed and fighting dac and deboer,im close to making a dent. i would most certainly preferred a job and income over the b.s. but if im going to be framed and hung out to dry over their lies and corruption,im going to go down fighting! your input does make a difference, and each day more drivers are discovering the truckers forum and getting enlightened.if enough reports go into dac, also known as hireright in the tulsa area, the company will be investigated, and possibly shut down. but we need to inform other drivers of what to do! if your dac has wrong info on it,get on the phone and protest it! and keep protesting it!dont let the companies get away with it!to them, your just an expendable asset that is easily replaced because you dont know what to do to to defend/cover/protect yourself! the most dangerous weapon you have against these corrupt companies, and corrupt law in some cases , is the spread of knowledge! your words are not falling on deaf ears.people read, then people talk.when people talk, and we know that they do,word spreads like wildfire. the main thing is that you stand up,and keep spreading the word.if only one person reads or hears your words, that one person could pass it on to dozens, perhaps even hundreds. in the truck stops, bad companies come a dime a dozen. drivers tend to remember when someone talks about a good one, which is seldom. unfortunately my information was a few years out of date. keep up the faith and keep passing the word on down the line.good luck driver.

Thanks for the words. I am actually more here for those seeking a job in the industry more so than for veterins. There has been too much clashing with me and veterins who disagree with what I have said; and who choose to say trucking is not for me, and I am only here to bitch and try to make others feel sorry for me. Actually I do have a dispute in with DAC. My termination is only for late loads (no accidents or safety issues), but a termination is a termination. Not good to have. It has become do obvious why there are so many hires and terminations. It's that subsidy money companies get who take on drivers fresh out of school. There is no real regulation on it that I have heard of (such as a driver must be employed barring safety issues for a minimum of a year for the company to collect the money). So it seems obvious that they take the money and run, and terminate as many as they need to in order to take "X" amount of new drivers in. And these companies fabricate any excuses and means necessary, and in the end, it's the driver's word against the company's. I did get somethiing back from DAC, but it did not look like the termination was ammended - just my employment history and such, and Werner's reason for the termination. But I will follow up with that again soon. My mistake was taking the school's word in good faith that I had a secure job with tuition reimbursement. Instead, my contract was not honored once I was in school, then I was set up with Swift who screwed me, then Werner. I worked only 5 months out of a whole year because of the games played in the trucking industry. It should be noted that ALL employers who take on armies of new hires month after month have to have something wrong somewhere (in a good economy, there should be a red flag in people's minds about a company who constantly hires armies of people month to month, to say nothing of when an economy is bad - it was my mistake to not reserch and look into things better). That goes for trucking as well. Don't anyone believe in the driver turnover rate - especially in this economy. I suspect I will have to wait until it is mandatory that I have to return to a school for refresher training before I can drive again - especially when training carriers are only hiring CONTRACTED STUDENTS right now. And I have seen there is no way I can go anywhere else for lack of experience. So I am in a bad way. Well this backfires on the school who set me up with these companies in the first place. They knew what the industry was doing over a year ago. I don't appreciate being set up to foot the bill myself - especially if I am not driving, and have to do it from another job. If my CDL is useless, the school will wait until I can use it again. And if I see I can never put the CDL to use over the next 6 months to a year, I will go to my license branch and have it terminated and I won't pay another dime to the school. I don't care what the contract says. In my mind, I was set up to not only be used for the money these companies get while they create FALSE JOBS, but I was set up to be RIPPED OFF as well. I'll pay the CDL off myself, but ONLY from a DRIVING JOB (semi trucks). The Government who created the problem in the first place may put a stop to the nonsense eventually. But it will be a while yet, and after a lot more lives get ruined. One thing for sure is that when I do drive again, I go back to the industry only long enough that it is good for me, until my regular work is back strong again, and the CDL is paid off. And I return extremely cautiously and watching my back. These companies have shown their true colors with the greed, shown how they don't care, so I will only care about me and the motoring public out there. Best of luck to you as well Driver.

welcome to the club.deboer transportation out of blenker wi. put the screws to me.but dont give up,hang in there. the best we can do is keep posting the warnings and keep the experienced drivers informed. i dont see how they can get away with the lies and illegal activities, but after nearly 10 months of being unemployed and fighting dac and deboer,im close to making a dent. i would most certainly preferred a job and income over the b.s. but if im going to be framed and hung out to dry over their lies and corruption,im going to go down fighting! your input does make a difference, and each day more drivers are discovering the truckers forum and getting enlightened.if enough reports go into dac, also known as hireright in the tulsa area, the company will be investigated, and possibly shut down. but we need to inform other drivers of what to do! if your dac has wrong info on it,get on the phone and protest it! and keep protesting it!dont let the companies get away with it!to them, your just an expendable asset that is easily replaced because you dont know what to do to to defend/cover/protect yourself! the most dangerous weapon you have against these corrupt companies, and corrupt law in some cases , is the spread of knowledge! your words are not falling on deaf ears.people read, then people talk.when people talk, and we know that they do,word spreads like wildfire. the main thing is that you stand up,and keep spreading the word.if only one person reads or hears your words, that one person could pass it on to dozens, perhaps even hundreds. in the truck stops, bad companies come a dime a dozen. drivers tend to remember when someone talks about a good one, which is seldom. unfortunately my information was a few years out of date. keep up the faith and keep passing the word on down the line.good luck driver.
