Haven't posted on here for some time. I got in a few days ago and a acquaintance came by and asked me how old is too old to get back into trucking, I told him I got back in at 65 but previously had many years of OTR experience. Not sure what is experience really is. He is 72 years old, but seems solid as a rock. Problem is he let his CDL go so I figure he would be like starting over. What do you all think?

He and I are the same age. The trick is to eat right, get your rest, and exercise. I don't smoke, drink, never have done drugs. I'm blessed, I feel good and feel good about what I'm doing. One of my hobbies is photography, and the job has given some tremendous photo opportunities. Want to sit in a rocking chair and wait to die, that may be ok for some people.

I met an 80 year old man pulling a lowboy the other day, an I’ve seen more than a few 40 year old men that wouldn’t last two weeks doing it.

You should see the guy who dropped this off at my house the other day.
He's in his mid 60's, super skinny. Probably 150 lbs.
He bought it nearby and has to go ditch his company trailer.
I've done a considerable amount of checking and it seems that even going through a two day refresher and having getting the CDL isn't good enough for most carriers. Or they want you to be out three to four weeks at a time. I don't mind being out a week plus or minus but I still have a home life.

I know of a few retirees that work for trailer leasing companies. They haul empty trailers from the customer to the leasing company shop to be repaired or for annual certification.
They get home every night and the work is not hard. that could be an avenue to explore.

I know a fellow that's 77 and still trucking. tough old bird !
Never to old I've seen a few in there 80s still trucking

I'm only 39 and I already only wanna do that. Freight is stupid.
safe to say that he isn't too old then!
Trucking is one of those jobs age is not even considered (for the most part)
If you pass the Med Card & have experience then that was a big plus over some young inexperienced drivers !
Trust me when I say this, trucking is not just man's job let alone a young persons job.
Driving North Dakota Oilfields an hills this IS a chain up job all year ! Depending on weather/times/locations/certain hills, elders are not uncommon.....Grandmas 60+ throwing chains in a blizzard yep ! I knew her an the truck she drove so I'd always stop an help her if I saw her on the road or locations, so she could get on her way faster to make money.
She was a good worker compared to some of the young pathic saps that came around.
