Agreed. While somewhat cute, she played the usual game most women play. She kept whipping out her "pussy pass", playing damsel in distress and that pissed me off. Either learn mechanics like your life depends on it or don't bother going up there.

I have to agree that the show sensationalizes the work way more than it should but if they didn't no one would watch it.

I certainly agree that Hugh Rowland was out of line with his hired drivers and the truck breakdowns. Especially the heater problems his "longtime friend" Rick Yemm had. Come on, man, I don't care how much you mistreat a truck you aren't going to cause the heater to malfunction. On another note Rick has a bad attitude and a huge ego which ultimately gets him fired in the second season, when they go to Northeastern Canada to drive on the frozen rivers. And the show highlights his hard on equipment style, showing him running hard over rough terrain, bouncing up and down and making a big deal of it. That boy certainly wouldn't drive for me if I had a trucking company.

In season 3 when they added the female eyewash I was reminded of the girl that was hired as a "journeyman mechanic" where I used to work at the power company. She looked a lot like this gal and I believe the only reason she got hired was because she had tits. This young woman was (in my own humble opinion) not that good looking, and she couldn't wrench her way out of a wet paper bag (said bag would have been better employed on her head). Ever see anyone use a 1" impact gun with an aluminum socket to pull a hub and brake drum assembly onto a spindle? I have. This dumb blonde (she was a bottle blonde) didn't have enough beans in her tight ass to do any of the heavy work she was supposedly qualified to do. I digress, sorry.

I did not have any more interest in the series after the addition of the girl driver.

I saw an episode of the blade and tower hauling crews on Speed recently and really thought that it was contrived. The TV show producers really have to stretch to make this kind of work watchable for sure, and even then it was a stretch.

I wish the poll had a choice for "it takes a normal, ordinary job and portrays it as something otherworldly, unattainable and so dangerous that they have to pay zillions of dollars to idiots, assholes and jerks".

I would vote for that.

Oh, now that this thread has been resurrected, the name of that show was Dangerous Drives, and the Heavy Haulers episode aired on Thanksgiving.

Oddly enough, there really wasn't a lot of drama added to it like Ice Road Truckers.

I lost interest in IRT in season 2. As far as Lisa goes she is ugly and I seem to remember back in the day the truckers had to have mechanical skills for the chance of something happens and they are stranded for hours or even days. SOME mechanical ability should be required to run up there in my opinion. While I'm not the most mechanically inclined person in the world I could have found that dang fuel leak and have enough common sense to carry extra stuff like that.

Made it through one episode with the girl... and i stress "girl"... a woman would know her shit, and be able to do something about it... she may as well wore a short skirt and hiked it up her leg evertime she got in her truck, I seem to recall "pussy card" somewhere in this thread.

I agree, if you don't know what they hell you are doing, don't do it. Plain and simple. Had to be for ratings, but with her..... they lost mine.

I don't know if you can put links to other sites in this forum but for those interested this link is to a thread on ADV Rider forum. It was put up by an actual ice road trucker and has some interesting pictures and day to day account of his work of a couple seasons driving north of Yellowknife.

The show would be far more watchable were it not for all the blessed commercial breaks.
I know, BUYING the Video bits eliminate commercials yet I'm not THAT interested.

I like seeing them folk movin' about outta their trucks in -20 weather WITHOUT gloves and driving with their windows somewhat down.
I couldn't drive up there for just the constant cracking of the ICE which isn't very thick.

Anyone deal with FROZEN LANDING GEAR lately or in the Winters in the lower 48??

The other thread on this topic got locked up,so Now i have to reitrate.I agree with sinister Hue Rowland runs junk and blames his drivers for break downs that are not their fault.I really hate this show Hue Rowland thinks and has said anyone can drive on the highway and that ice road trucking is more difficult than driving on the interstate.He maybe right i don t know ive never run the ice road but,he does not put up with what we do daily 4 wheelers, shippers etc.Hue needs to get off his high horse.The show is completely packed with action shots over dramatizing a simple situation.In adition to the overwhelming commercials,when they do returne to the show they feel the need to repeat the events that have just transpired,we are not basic we can follow the story they really underestimate the viewers,I REALLY HATE THIS SHOW.I hope Hue Rowland joins the forum,So i can express my hatred toward him personally.That would be interesting.HUe exibits everything that is wrong in the industry.sorry i didn t mean to get on a rant,lol

Hugh Rowland could pass a camera without hanging off the horn like a retarded monkey.

Hugh Rowland could fill out a logbook.

Hugh Rowland could properly secure a load, and man up when he damages it through a lack of doing so.

Hugh Rowland could understand after all these seasons that listening to him talk is annoying because he curses so much they have to bleep every other word.

They're sending these people to the Himalayan mountains next. I guess they realize it's gotten boring, so they're going to take these "top notch" drivers and start putting them in various situations, and hope the rating hold.

We had a bunch of guys that made accounts claiming to be dalton drivers. They pretty much left when they realized the entire forum wasn't tripping over ourselves to talk to these guys. They're all still registered to my knowledge, but I guess pretty disappointed we weren't kissing up to them.

I watched the first couple of episodes, that was enough till this weekend I watched a few episodes on the telethon or whatever it is called, still not impressed and I don't think I missed much, heck the channel could save alot of money in production and just record the conversations on the c.b for a couple hours, just about equal in the entertainment equation.

I haven't really watched much of the show at all, maybe half the firs season, and a couple episodes in season 2 and 3. I live in Canada and they started airing the show here much later. I believe they just finished showing season 3 up here this summer. I came across this article/interview with one of the characters (Alex) from the show and thought I would post the link here. You can read for yourself what he has to say about how much of it is dramatized for the viewers.
