How did this happen?

So one of my supervisors is wondering what I hit with my trailer to cause that abrasion like damage to the door hinge. I assured him I did not hit anything but I did notice a loud pop while opening the door. I tell him that does not look like a sideswipe type hit but looks more like a pressure type pinch damage. Anyone else have experience with this type of damage?

Looks like something got jammed in the hinge, preventing it from opening all the way, but it was forced all the way back to pin it open.

Remove the hinge from the door, tap the pin out, and beat it back into shape with your winter brake drum hammer.

In the container world if the door still opens, no one cares.

There's no way a sideswipe or impact at any speed does such little damage, that I can think of at least.

Unless a butterfly flew into you I guess.

According to my calculations, given the extremely low mass of a butterfly, it would have to be going at least 88,000 mph to do that minor bend in @quillcom's trailer hinge.

Why are they called butterflies anyway? They are not made of butter.

Switch it around to "flutter by" and it's accurate, because that's what they do. :headscratch2:

Still possible.

Upon further review, it was determined that the hinge incident was most likely a previous incident that was never reported.

Actually the other door hinge at the bottom had that same type damage but was not pointed out.

So they just ended up leaving both of those hinges in place and just swapping out longer bolts.

The original guy that pointed out the damage admitted to not being 100% sure it was that way after I used it.
